Lurker comes out

Hi everyone.

After lurking for quite a while, I’d like to “come out” and ask a question.  Just how hard will a duodenal switch be on a 50 yr old person?  I need some feedback to know what to expect.  Thank you all in advance.

Should be no harder on you if you were 30. I really don't think that they measure the surgery in that way, My opinion and mine alone for what it's worth (usually nothing) is that they look at your health condition to be your main factors for denying or approving your surgery.....A nice sort of healthy 60 year old could have the same outcome as a 40 year old with poorer health...

DS is more maintenance than RNY. People like the DS because you can eat more, eat what you want etc......it has it's good and bads just like any of the WLS procedures.

Thank you for your perspective. And it's not "worth nothing"--I appreciate it very much!

I don't have an answer to your question, Lauara, but now that you are out of the lurking, tell us about yourself....

And welcome to the best board around !

Hi, Sheila-

You're right this a great board.

My story is like those of so many others.  Obese since childhood, tried every diet in the book etc,etc...  Had a RNY 10 years ago, but gradually regained.  I then had a StomaphyX-the biggest waste of $8,000 of my life.  It was worthless.  I felt no restriction whatsoever.

Had I done my homework,  I would have realized that,  for . the DS would have been a better choice.  I plan on correcting that now.

Since I'm a self pay, I want to make sure everything goes right, I don't waste any more money,  and I get back to work asap!

It's great to be here among such supportive people!
