Friday - What's New (it's almost Friday anyway!)

Good Morning Debbie and Friends,
It's 7:15 am here, rainy cloudy and foggy but who cares as long as it stays in the 50's and we have none of that "white stuff" to deal with. John just left for work.
Today is my 3 yr surgeversary... wow what a difference the wls and 3 yrs have brought. I hope those who are just beginning their own journey to a healthier future will gain as much and more than I have - without the RNY I don't think I'd even be alive by now.My health was rapidly decaying and so was my desire to live ..... until I met John and we explored this crazy path... I said crazy cuz to some folks who just will not take the time or make the effort to understand us and what drives us to seek this way of life... and it is a life changing choice and a choice to live.....
I was rudely slapped with that type of attitude by my own son recently - he hadn't seen me since 2004 when I weighed my almost heaviest 305  ( I went on to gain 18 more before I peaked out at 323 ). When we met again  and after a few minutes chatter - I remarked on how he'd changed - gotten married , bought a house ,  (put on a few pounds that I noticed but did not bring up) and was getting a much higher hairline .... and then I said " Well ,what do you think of how I'm looking now?"...... ( I'd lost 140 lbs) his lovely reply was " Anybody could look better if they had enough surgeries". Needless to say I was hurt but said zip... the conversation kept going - it didn't last much longer than another 15 minutes. When I left I told his wife who walked me out, whom I love dearly - "don't worry, I won't be back" .
The point I'm trying to make is that some people - no matter how you know them or what the situation  ....they will never "get it".... and I just have to let it be Their Problem and not mine. I made this choice for many reasons , I made this choice for the rest of my life , it was meant to be life altering - for the better and baby it surely is !
Ahhhhh...  there, I got that off my drooping sagging chest and I won't have to go over that again .
Geeezzz I sat down to say hello and tell you of my special date .... didn't intend to go on and on - but I did and I'm not going to take it back - cuz somebody else can hopefully not only identify with what I said but can maybe benefit from it.
The eye dr visit was not to get the darn sty removed but see about it's removal -  I do have a date for it in January now though, a simple procedure and only an hour or so out of the day.
Today I'm going to go up to the museum and re organize the 325 name badges and do another little project. Then It's back home for a few hours and then John and I are back at the museum this evening to serve refreshments at a reception for  artists and members. Then tomorrow we'll run errands etc as it's still supposed to be rainy and then on Sunday we can put away the last of all the decorations and do some other yard clean up - It's going to be sunny they're predicting ... sure hope they're right .
Take care of you .... you are the only YOU  there is.... all the rest will fall into place......

Joyce,

Congratulations on your 3 yr surgiversary!

And I am so sorry to hear about the unkind remark made by your son.    It was just mean and hurtful.  I'm so happy that YOUR CHOICE has been to make life better for yourself.

Hugs to you,
Vicky

Joyce, I just want to congratulate you on your 3 wonderful years of your great life and special wishes for all of the fantastic ones yet ahead of you. I am sure there are many many more ahead.

I can totally agree and relate to you about why you did this. I was getting more and more health problems and was going downhill very quickly. I thought that I was just to young to do that. I learned about this surgery out of helping my husband's cousin. I knew that she needed help but then I found out about it and went from there. Sadly, Bill's cousin has never done anything but that is not my problem. I am so grateful for where I am today just as we know that you are too.

May you continue to live the life that you are loving and may they just keep getting better and better. I am sending lots of hugs and plenty of love along with them. You are definitely an asset to this family of ours.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Joyce:

Ignore your son ... some people are just ignorant and say things like that ... my sister is like that and believes that the only way to lose weight is by exercise and counting calories, the way she did. Well, we all know that our bodies don't work like other people, they shut down and the metabolism slows to a crawl and we can't lose anymore. If I could have lost this weight normally, don't ya think I would have? Having surgery is a desperate situation ... I did it for my health, but having my innards rerouted isn't an easy decision.

You made your choice for you, not for your son or your husband or your daughter or whoever, but for you ... and it was the right choice for YOU! Congrats on your remarkable progress. Never let anyone tell you that you are a failure because you're not.

I love ya, sista!

Joyce,

Congratulations. You are a WINNER in every way.

We should write a book of snappy responses to hurtful remarks. Being such Ladies and Gentlemen, we would not say them aloud, but but could we think up a storm.  Then again, we might throw the book at their heads.

Many hugs and kisses

Joyce, Congratulations on 3 years!!!!!! I think you are wonderful! As for your son, I have one that that hasn't talked to us for many years except to"borrow money". He wasn't around for my cancer, the death of my mom, Father in law, his great grandmother, & my sister. It will always hurt, but life goes on. Actually it was his wife that started the problems. I hope you know that we know you are an awesome lady!!!

Good morning everyone from Charlotte NC! We have  a beautiful Carolina blue sky this morning. High today around 77. What a blessed day and TGIF!!!!!
I'm at work now and going thru over 100 emails. ARRRGGGGG I wish people would leave me alone on Fridays lol!
Eileen, you take care of that asthma now. My oldest son has had it since he was 5 years old and would be lost without his inhaler. We were hoping he would grow out of it but he's 35 now so I guess that won't happen!
Jacki, I hope you enjoy your trip to your son's home in Charlotte for Thanksgiving. Hopefully this nice weather will continue!
Congrats on your raise Margo!! Every little bit helps!
Joyce, Congrats on your 3 yr surgeversary~!!! Im still pre-op so that seems like an eternity to me right now! You've lost just what I want to lose! Why can our children be so cruel sometimes??
Well everyone have a great weekend. George, I bet you're getting very excited about the new baby!
Hugs to all!

Good morning everyone,
Not much new to report here.  I'm paying closer attention to protein and water to try to break this stall but still not exercising consistently.    Also still not clear on the supplements.  I have them next to coffee pot and take in morning with my meds and protein drink.  Heard someone say they have to wait to take thyroid med and calcium.  And I think I should be taking more calcium and maybe vitamin later on.  The hard part about having surgery so far away is I haven't met with a nutritionist or dietician since surgery, only following written instructions that say start your supplements now.  I'll have to ask about that during my last Fresno appt on Monday.  One thing at a time I guess.

It's been difficult to maintain energy at work in the afternoons.  I did find an energy supplement called Pollen Burst that allows me to be more active in the afternoon/evening and made a good start on the neglected housework last night.  Finally get my delayed hair appointment this afternoon.  Then dinner and a movie with Gil.  Yep, we're talking again but taking it slow.

Okay, time to start the day.  Have a bright, beaming, better than average one.

Good morning all,

As Joyce mentioned... a wet, dreary day here in New England but over 50 degrees!  Very doable for November!

Had to go to the chiropractor last night after work.  Seems water aerobics isn't as gentle on my back as I would've assumed.  But, all is good now.  Crack! Crack!  And I'm back in shape!  Needless to say... I skipped water aerobics last night.  I'll go again Saturday morning.

We have a wedding to attend tonight!  I have a very dear young friend at work, I call her my adopted daughter since my kids are so far away.  She calls me "mama Stewart".  Very sweet girl.  Anyway, I've not been to a wedding in several years, and even at that it was a subdued second wedding so not the huge gown and cake kind of event tonight will be.  Last night I spent time trying on potential outfits to wear to the wedding.  Ugh... I didn't want to go out and purchase something new and then not be able to wear it again, so since I am only 7+ wks out I figured I'd just make do with what I have.  I decided on a dressy pair of black Palazzo pants and a black/silver top (that's just a hair too big but doable).  I look forward to a night out!

We got the news at work yesterday...  I work for Fidelity Investments.  1300 people to be cut this month (3% of the workforce), and the potential for another 2700 in the first quarter of next year.  All I can do is keep my fingers crossed and pray, but if it's going to be me... please let it be me NOW so I don't have to stress through the next 5 months!

That being said.... on to work!

Have a great day/weekend all,
Vicky
