It's Thursday - What's new with you????
Here's my bird story, Jean. We had a parakeet named Charlie ... the bird was getting sick and my dad didn't want to take it to the vet, so he decided he was going to take care of it himself. So he took it out to the garage and put the cage by the tailpipe, turned on the car and gassed it. Got out of the car, look at the bird and it was still singing away. So then he closed the garage door, did it again and got out of the car, and poor little Charlie was clinging to the cage door with his claws, trying to get out (he was dead at that point). My dad had to take him off the door and lay him in the cage. In the morning, we got up and found Charlie the parakeet dead in the cage, and we were all crying. We made my dad have a furneral and bury the bird out by the lilac tree in the backyard.
We didn't know the whole story until many years later, when we were grown up and my dad told us how he gassed the bird so we didn't have to watch Charlie die a slow death, because he couldn't afford to take him to the vet. At that point, it was kind of a funny story.
Years later, when my dad died and we were at the wake, we were telling stories about him amongst ourselves, and that story came up ... my nephew, who was 10 at the time, heard the story and was horrified (as I guess I would have been if I knew about it when I was 10). So we had to explain to Christopher that Grandpa was just trying to help Charlie die because Charlie was sick, and this was the most humane thing he could think of at the time. Although I know it really doesn't sound humane. Now, of course, Christopher is in his 30s and can understand the story much better and chuckle about it, too, understanding how his Grandpa didn't hate the bird (really), just didn't want to see his kids cry.
Who ever you are concerned about is lucky to have you! My prayers are added to everyone else's.
We are going to go see my husband's sister this evneing. She has been having bone scans and we are afraid it may be cancer
I am also meeting a friend from the Virginia forum for supper at Cracker barrel. Wesley is going along for the free meal I will buy him.
Hope you get good news soon, George.
Blessings,
Jeane
Not much new to report here. Still wading through work and flopping into the recliner when I get home. Not much energy and housework is piling up. Thank goodness for weekends.
The kids seem to be doing better. Gil and I are taking it slow but we're talking again. I'm going to dinner and a movie (Madagascar 2) with him tomorrow after work.
Hugs and prayers, Carmel Valley Linda
