Brand spanking new with all of this!!
Hi everybody. I've been on the general site for about a week now, and just figured out that there are other parts to the site. Anyhow, I'm really glad that there are folks out there who are over fifty. I'm just starting the process. I went to an informational session about two weeks ago and am very excited about having the surgery, assuming I'm approved. I'm tired of being fat and finally have decided to do something about it. I'm just plain excited. My 92 year old mother is actually on board, although she has lots of questions. I told her "so do I." Looking forward to reading your posts and posting some of my own.

Hi Jan....Welcome to OFF. This is an awesome forum. I am fairly new myself. Tell us a little about yourself. We will try to answer any questions you may have. I am having Lap RNY coming up soon.........."NOVEMBER 19th" and very excited. I am almost 66 years old.............
and ready to start this new journey to better health and happiness.

Thanks everybody for the great welcome!!! I'm from Pittsburgh and gathering from the lay of the land and my time table, I'll be having surgery in June or July. I've decided to wait until after Christmas to formally begin the process . . . want to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas, as I know you have to diet for 6 months pre surgery. I want to have the Lap RNY. I'm as scared as I am excited . . . what if I lose too much weight, what if it doesn't work and I have tons of complications, what if it does work!!?!?!? Lots of questions!
Jan
Thanks Sheri.....Tell your son Happy Birthday. My BDay is Nov 15th and I will be 66...My daughter Melissa will be 41 on the 23rd and my son, Mike has his 44th Bday on the 29th. You could say November is a busy month in our household. I am having this surgery to get healthy and live longer so I can enjoy all of OUR birthdays for years to come.

Hi Jan,
Welcome to the OFF board, it's a pretty good place to come for information and support, everyone here is friendly and it becomes like a family of choice. There are a few people on here that come from up your way, BaseballMom (Mary) and Lora13.
Also, the PA board is another place I visit, as I had my surgery in Langhorne, PA, and live just over the state line, about 15 mintues from Philadelphia, like this board it has a bunch of great people on this journey, willing to lend a suggestion or information when needed, the ages there vary from 20somethings to 50somethings, so feel free to check it out there too!
Anyway, happy to have new folks, it wasn't too long ago I was one of them!
Best wishes, Laureen

Hi Jan:
Welcome to OFF. It's a great group. You'll enjoy us. I used to be 347 pounds, so I know what you mean about "tired of being fat." I was fat all my life and yo-yo dieted, and finally got desperate. My pain doc told me if I didn't lose weight, I'd end up in a wheelchair ... I chose life instead of the wheelchair.
My mom was against this at first, but now, after I've lost 180 pounds, she's all for it. She doesn't even say I'm going to gain it all back anymore.
