I've been losing weight steadily since I came home from the hospital.  Now, all of a sudden... since Saturday I've GAINED 3 pounds.  I couldnt' believe it when I was up 2 pounds yesterday so I figured it was a fluke and today would be better but today I'm up another pound!!!  What gives?  I cried in the bathroom this morning.  My calorie intake is about the same every day give or take 100 calories, usually not more than around 800 and I exercise 5-7 days a week.  Lately I have been exercising every day, I haven't missed a day in 3 weeks.  What could be going on?  I'm freaking out.

Laura,  I don't have an answer for you but I can encourage you.....  If you are not journaling maybe that would help.  See if there is a food culprit lurking.  Or if you are doing weights during your exercise routine you might be gaining muscle....    Water retention?

Look at this as a temporary set back, as long as you are doing what needs to be done.  Maybe it is something totally off the wall from your eating...

Take heart, and know we are here for you.    Millie

Thanks Millie...

I do journal all my food, that's how I know where my calories are coming from... I dont' eat that much.  Protein and veggies and maybe some fruit sometimes and that's about it.  I probably shouldn't be jumping on the scale every day.   I don't know.  I'm having a hard time being positive today.

Laura,

SCALES
TAPE MEASURE

That happens to most of us, it drives you NUTZ!!! If you ate any high sodium foods, it could be fluid retention.

Increase your water and protein for starters. Make sure your carbs are good ones too.

Shake around the exercise routine. If you did it at the same time each day, do it at different times. Our bodies seem to quickly adapt to the same old, same old each day.

Weight loss is more often a series of steps, not a constant, steady decline. Very frustrating.

Most people have stalls but if you stick to your food/exercise plan, things will keep moving.

Hang in there. You are doing very well.

laura...STAY OFF THE SCALE EVERYDAY!!!!!!! ONCE A WEEK IS ALL!!!!!!

your body went through a major operation and is trying to figure out what happened that its losing weight...also if you are exercising you are building muscle...don't worry you will lose this weight like magic so to say...i had stall upon stall after mine and i still don't know how i got to where i am today...lol

Thanks Annette and Judy....
It helps just knowing I'm not alone.  I'll keep on keeping on.  I've decided to leave the scale alone for a while and like I mentioned in a previous post, my 3 week Nut appointment has not turned into 6 weeks (grrrrr!) but I see her on Thursday and I'll find out where I can tweak what I'm eating.
Thanks for being so supportive.  Hugs!

Laura,

Annette gave you some very good tips, as has everyone else - but no one has mentioned those dreaded hormones....  Also sleep... ya gotta get plenty of sleep and stop stressing...
Hormones play a big part in our weight loss journey.

Sometimes it is good to eat a few more calories and vary your calorie intake for a few days.  It seems to help me when I am at a stall.

You are going to be fine.  I can't tell you to stay off the scales - I am an every day scale person, too !!

Take care,
Shelia

Aloha Laura from your Hawaiian Off sister,

Oh, I so know what you are experiencing! I was a big "pity party" complainer in here about my constant stalls. There were times when it would go for WEEKS without a pound going away! Very frustrating. BUT, the silver lining in this cloud is that the weight will continue to come off, in stair-step style if you eat right and exercise. I used to cringe when people told me to EAT MORE but I believed in the sisters/brothers in here and did it, and it WORKED!! I would add more protein and voila.....the pounds would begin to go away again. Try it!!

This little family got me through many stalls, and now I'm a skinny clothes hangar!! LOL I wish you the best, and keep coming in here and sharing your journey with us. I'm betting that a year from now you will be a whole different person....you will probably have LOST A WHOLE PERSON!

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

I understand what you are saying Laura.  I have been fluctuating up and down 2 pounds for about a week.  It is back down to the lowest weight yet today.  I just want to get below 200 so badly I can taste it!
