My recliner is dead

Well, the furniture repair guy came by to fix my recliner ... or should I say "refix" if that's a word ... this afternoon. He tried a couple of times and it didn't work. All he could tell me to do is call the La-Z-Boy store and tell them about it, and they would come out and get the chair, send it to Detroit and fix it there. But I'm afraid I wouldn't get it back before I had my surgery in January ... I need my recliner! Last time, there were days I couldn't get to sleep in my bed, and I wound up sleeping in the recliner. I won't be able to get in the recliner the way it is now after surgery if I'm hobbling around on the walker. The other option is a new recliner, and I really can't afford that. I'm so angry! At least the guy gave me my money back, which helps, but I still don't have my recliner fixed. Aaarrgh! (I'm starting to sound like a pirate here.)

Good that he didn't charge you.... sometimes they aren't that generous....

What exactly is wrong with the recliner?

The footrest is permanently in the "up" position. I have to crawl out of the chair. Fine for now, but not when I'm using a walker or a cane ... you understand.

try asking for one on freecycle.................... there was just one here  afew days ago---
it's FREE except you would have to find a way to pick it up probly...

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Yeah, and I don't have a way to pick it up (no truck, won't fit in my Honda, and I can't carry it) ... thanks for the idea, though, Margo.

January is a ways off.  Try calling Lazy boy, explain your situation and ask worst case how long will it take.  They may send a technician out to your house to fix it.

From what I understand from the mobile furniture repair guy who couldn't fix it at my house, I should get it back before January ... but then he also said this last part shouldn't take a month and a half to get in (and that's how long it took ... the first part took two months to get from La-Z-Boy).

He also told me what they do is come out and get the chair, take it away, send it to Detroit to be fixed. Don't know how long that takes, or how much that costs. Mobile repair guy cost me $128, which at least he refunded.

Eileen,
Email the Lazyboy customer service folks, explain the situation and give them a chance to make it right.   Stranger things have happened.

Did you buy the chair local? Call all local stores to see if they can help. We only buy Lazy boys because I and my family are large people  and sometimes the chairs don't stand up to the use.  However lazy boy does lifetime warranties the mechanisms and many of the shops have a man that has been trained in exchanging them out right in the home.. It usually costs us $50.00 each time they have been replaced.  If not check into your insurance sometimes they will get you a bed when need in the home in you r case it would be a recliner!  I hope this helps some.
