Coffee Drinkers Question
Hi Chevy, Welcome to OFF! First of all you should always follow your Doctor's advise. That being said, remember that coffee is a diuretic, so if you do go back to drinking coffee you should drink more water than the 64 oz daily that is reccomended. I've heard one extra cup of water for one cup of coffee. I don't think the splenda is a problem, but I think you might want to take a look at what's in the creamer. Does it have calories, fat and/or carbs? Perhaps adding non-fat or 1% milk to your coffee might be an option.
It's good you're thinking about all these things now, it will serve you well. HUGS

Hi!
My surgeon prefers his patients to use only de-caf coffee, however I do occasionally have a cup of regular. I use the s/f coffee creamer
and yes it does have 30 calories and 2.5 gm. of fat per tablespoon.
I usually only have one cup per day, so don't think that hurts too much.
I saw a program on TV the other day and they were talking about regular coffee and the nutritionist on the program said "coffee is NOT a diurectic"......I've always heard it is.....who knows???
Water and crystal lite are my drinks of choice!

Done! Your Ticker:
What I do is have my morning coffee 16 oz and take my vanilla protein and mix it with a little water and add it to my coffee as a creamer, sometimes instead of water I use vanilla, carmel or cinnamon sugar free Davinci Syrup and it taste like a latte.
That way I get my coffee and protein in 1 cup

Hey Chevy....good luck on your upcoming surgery and enjoy the ride!! You'll only wish you did it sooner!! My doc also asks that I only use de-caf...so I do. I think the caffiene also spurs on your appetite. Splenda is OK for us WLS'ers and I also use f/f...s/f creamer. I guess small amounts of reg coffee will be OK after a few months....but check with your doc.
I gave up regular coffee two weeks before surgery and was off it for nearly a year and a half; went back to full leaded last year and have stayed on it. I really missed my caffeine! But I drink a lot of water anyway, so I think that compensates for any caffeine that might be a diuretic. Listen to your doctor ... if he says quit caffeine, start getting off it now because it's a real problem going cold turkey two weeks before surgery.
I haven't added sugar or cream to coffee in years ... sometimes I add SF syrups, though.
