Getting hooked up with a NUT
My biggest problem is soda and pizza's OMG I love them both!
My Question to ya'll is this... how early before your surgery did you start to give up certain foods/drinks? Did you find it hard to do?
Thanks... Chevy in Texas
Good luck to you. I didn't give up any foods before surgery, just began learning to use smaller portions and drinking lots of water. I used FitDay.com to track my intake and that helped me so much. It is a free site that lets you customize in your favorite foods and has thousands of foods already in it. The site is easy to use and shows you what you are eating as far as protein, fats, and carbs. Check out the nutrition forum here for some questions and ideas with your NUT's visit. I was 330 lbs in 2004 and now weigh 137 lbs. My journey has been good. I am now 61.
I didn't so much give up foods, as begin to make healthier choices and started eating more like I was a post-op. I also had RNY, so it might be different for you, getting the Realize Band.
Soda was something I hardly drank for the last few years pre-op, so no big deal, I did give up caffiene for a little while, but now have no more than two cups a day. As for pizza, well, I didn't have any for a time after surgery, but I've since been able to have an occasional piece, though I only once was able to eat the whole slice and it was very thin crust and I took my sweet time eating it. I eat the top of the pizza (the cheese and sauce and any topping) and then end crust and that usually fills me up good and gives me my taste of it. Also, I have found since surgery that I cannot tolerate white breads or pasta, fat and sugars, while they don't make me dump (and that is not to say I don't have any at all, but I don't push the limits having too much of them), they make me someone no one would want to be around, if you get my drift, sort of like a skunk. . .
So my suggestion is that when you meet with a NUT, you have them outline for you what a healthy diet would be for you with the banding and leading up to it. . .
Best wishes, Laureen
