Getting hooked up with a NUT

Well I decided to jump the gun and call my insurance today to see if there were any Nut's close by that were covered... They gave me a number to call and wella... She even does housecalls! Woohoo... Gonna get set up with her as soon as my PCP gives  me a referal, which they said should take only a couple of days... all the legal insurance stuff... sigh

My biggest problem is soda and pizza's OMG I love them both!

My Question to ya'll is this... how early before your surgery did you start to give up certain foods/drinks? Did you find it hard to do?

Thanks... Chevy in Texas

I gave up carbonation as soon as I attended the weight loss seminar. I also gave up caffeine shortly after that.  I didn't give up particular kinds of food, but tried to stay away from fast food.

And yes, especially the fast food was hard to do.

Thanks for your input Jeane... Hopefully with the help of my Nut I will be able to stop with the soda soon...

Good luck to you. I didn't give up any foods before surgery, just began learning to use smaller portions and drinking lots of water. I used FitDay.com to track my intake and that helped me so much. It is a free site that lets you customize in your favorite foods and has thousands of foods already in it. The site is easy to use and shows you what you are eating as far as protein, fats, and carbs. Check out the nutrition forum here for some questions and ideas with your NUT's visit. I was 330 lbs in 2004 and now weigh 137 lbs. My journey has been good. I am now 61.

I didn't so much give up foods, as begin to make healthier choices and started eating more like I was a post-op.  I also had RNY, so it might be different for you, getting the Realize Band.

Soda was something I hardly drank for the last few years pre-op, so no big deal, I did give up caffiene for a little while, but now have no more than two cups a day.  As for pizza, well, I didn't have any for a time after surgery, but I've since been able to have an occasional piece, though I only once was able to eat the whole slice and it was very thin crust and I took my sweet time eating it.  I eat the top of the pizza (the cheese and sauce and any topping) and then end crust and that usually fills me up good and gives me my taste of it.  Also, I have found since surgery that I cannot tolerate white breads or pasta, fat and sugars, while they don't make me dump (and that is not to say I don't have any at all, but I don't push the limits having too much of them), they make me someone no one would want to be around, if you get my drift, sort of like a skunk. . .

So my suggestion is that when you meet with a NUT, you have them outline for you what a healthy diet would be for you with the banding and leading up to it. . .

Best wishes, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Hello Monica and Laureen.... nice to meet both of you! Thank you for your input. I don't know how long it is going to take before I even get approved so I think my best bet would be to just give up soda and pizza now... well at least cut down and go from there... I've been a soad addict since the 6th grade...

Laureen I am having Gastric Bypass...
