Two days postop - fine except for the burping!

 Hi, All,
I had my RNY on Monday and was discharged yesterday. I don't think things could have gone any better. Dr. Chu uses an OnQ pump for pain management - wires taped to your skin sense a change in body temperature and shot a little Marcaine (like what the dentists use) into the incision to numb it. You carry this little ball around in a pouch until it runs out after about 4 days, then pull it out. I love it. I've only had to take a pain pill at night - otherwise I'm pretty comfortable.

The only thing bothering me is some burping - I've tried room temperature fluids and smaller sips, but nothing seems to work. Any tips? It's not really uncomfortable - just annoying.

Thanks,

Marcy

Welcome Home Marcy!
I had the same problem with burping, it did go away after a week or 2.  I got to a point where I would just laugh it off.  I did change the way I drink, I exhale before I take a drink and it did seem to help.  May be wierd but it seems to work for me.

burping is much better than keeping that gas in!

the burping will go away, just give it some time

try walking ta little bit each day, that helps your system get back to normal.

be safe and well, jacki

Welcome to the Loser's Bench, the view from here is pretty cool!

As for the burping, it's pretty normal, you might even experience strange gurgling noises coming from your stomach in the future, particularly after drinking something, all normal parts of life post-WLS, your body is healing now and it's really hard to get fluids and such in, best advice is to keep a bottle or glass by your side and remember to take little sips throughout the day, the fluids are very important at this point, even more so than the protein, at least that's what they told us the first week out.  You'll get there, just take it as it comes and if you have any questions, you should be able to call your surgeon's office, most times they rather us ask stupid questions then do something foolish. . .

Positive healing thoughts coming at you, Laureen

I am happy to know that your surgery went well. Sounds like everthing is going okay.
I never had the burbs so I can't help you there. It is probably from the gas they gave you during surgery. It will get better.

Keep us posted on how things are going. Hang on for the ride of your life!!

Burping goes away????????? I still am having burping issues. I'm 14 months from surgery. Everybody is different. I hope you don't have the touchy issues I've had. Sue

Thanks for the support and advice from all of you. I tried walking more and paying attention to the way I swallow, and for now at least the burping is pretty much gone. I think I was so used to gulping that I was taking air in every time I swallowed.

Thanks again,

Marcy
