What's New Tuesday!

Good Morning Eileen and OFFers!

I'm alive and well and in the new house! Let me tell you, the next time I have to vacate, it will either be on a rolling cart or I'll have a "living estate sale" and give it away if necessary! Oh my GOOOSSSSHHHHH! We still have the 3 car garage stacked almost ceiling to floor with boxes and we have been unpacking since Friday!

Oh the treasures (NOT!) we are unboxing! We had to pack so quickly to get out of the house we sold that we just had the "we'll deal with this later syndrome."  Now, it is definitely later. . . and I'm leaving on the Mexican Riviera cruise this Thursday.

The "plan" was that we'd be in the house almost a month ago. Now why oh why did I believe that would happen?  I've "been there, done that" before and I've never gotten out of one house, apartment, duplex, bedroom, whatever, in the time frame that I was told would happen. What made my naive (sp? doesn't look right!) mind believe it would happen this time?

At any rate, the new house seems so big compared to our little 2 bedroom apartment that we were in for 4 months. But, as we put our things away and as the finishing touches get completed outside (fence, sod, rock work) it is starting to feel like home. And. . . . Maui Karen, the sunrise from my kitchen window is absolutely stunning! I don't have the Pacific reflecting the colors back but the pinks, purples, blues, amongst the high clouds as the sun peeps over the horizon of the Blue Mountains to my east is pretty stunning! I've taken several pics and will post when I get a chance. Windows haven't been cleaned yet, but Mike got tired of my complaining. He saw me opening the window so that my picture wouldn't have a dirty window reflection in and got the ladder out and washed the window (several times I might add!) so that I can enjoy it even more.

I packed for the cruise last week before we left the apartment. Today and tomorrow I have just a few things to do. Hadn't thought about money. Do I need to take any Mexican currency or are they happy to take VISA?

We bought a new flat screen tv and a  leather sectional for the great room. Those were our only furniture purchases. Signed up with Charter for phone, cable, and internet. So far so good. When they tick me off, as they have in the past, I may try Direct TV. It's so windy up here on  the hill that we thought we'd give this a try first.  And oh my gosh, I'm in love with DVR and High Definition and a 46 inch screen! May turn me who gets distracted so easily into a tv junkie! I washed "August Rush" last night. I absolutely love being able to pick when I want to watch a movie. Have done any recording yet, but Mike claims it's so easy that even Maggie could figure it out. Perhaps there's hope for me.

I do have a nasty sinus infection. Finally got to the clinic on Saturday and have a nasal spray and drugs. Hopefully I won't be hacking and coughing and keeping my cruisemates awake. Oh well, I can always get up and go somewhere. On the ship there's always someone out doing something.  And for 7 glorious days and nights I'll have no "have tos!"  Candy, if you can get the Redhead to the dock in San Diego we can "Weekend at Bernie's" her in no time. You can enjoy the cruise with us. We'll take pictures and  Janet can see what a great time she had later!

Back to the boxes and totes that are calling me and then back to bed for a few. My middle of the night unpacking is the most productive. No drop ins to see the house, no phone calls, just me and my "Oh, my I forgot I had this!" or "Why the h-e- double toothpicks did I save this?"

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I don't know how easy Charter's DVR is, but I have AT&T and it is a breeze.  I go on the internet and choose what to record.  Don't have to do anything with the TV.  Love, love, love it.

Morning all.....
There is heavy frost on everything this morning, but thankfully no snow, at least not yet.  It was so rainy and cold yesterday, with sleet hitting the windows in the late afternoon.

Just got back from taking the van to the repair shop....then they called and said it won't be done until
tomorrow sometime, so they are bringing me a loaner to use....gotta go to work in the morning, ya know.

DS stopped by yesterday and we had a nice LONG visit.
It's been a while since we've had a chance to talk.  He is so busy with his business, and now he's helping with Youth for Christ, in addition to being Youth Leader at their church, and leading the Praise & Worship Team.

My step grand daughter actually called me....haven't talked to her for over two years....she's engaged now
and planning a wedding for 2010.  It was nice that she remembered me.....have two other granddaughters and a grandson (all step) and don't hear anything from them at all, in fact I wasn't even invited to the one's H.S. graduation party....that hurt!

Well, since I am home all day, I will work on the Christmas project and try to keep busy.  Did the laundry yesterday afternoon.  Need to go grocery shopping, but will wait until Thursday...we have a Halloween potluck at work and I don't know what to take, maybe the turkey rollups with dill pickle, so  I'll have something to eat.  Seems like the bank will find any excuse to have food and it's usually not WLS friendly.

Better get some breakfast now.  Oh, I tried the Greek Yogurt and yuck, it's so sour tasting....oh my!   Maybe next time I will try stirring in some sugar free jelly.

Have a good day and be good!

Karen,

I find it fascinating to hear about people moving. My one and only move was from my parents home, as a new bride 42 years ago, to this house. I have never been in the attic, only hand Tom boxes of "stuff" to store up there.

If/when I move, maybe I'll just walk out and buy eveything new. Wouldn't that be a luxury and less work? Just a dreamer.

Have fun on your trip.

Your new home sounds wonderful. I love living in the mountains ... miss it so much!

You will love the DVR. If it's like Comcast's, it's so easy to use ... if it records. sometimes mine doesn't. I think it's because I have too much stored. I need to catch up! You just go and decide what you want to watch, if it's a series, you say record this series and it does it ... most of the time, for me at least. It's great. I love it so much more than recording on a VCR.

Money in Mexico ... take some traveler's checks with you for things at craft stands and such, but most places will take Visa.

Aloha my friend........Aaah, I am so happy that you are finally in your new home. I'm a little envious, too. Sounds like you have space to spare, and that's something I haven't had for several years now...since moving to Maui. Oh, yes...on the beautiful sunrise!! That is wonderful....and I do want to see pictures.

I hear you on the "why did I pack this?" When I moved from Santa Cruz to Portland for the two years in a big 4 bedroom, 3 bath house...I brought TONS OF stuff...I filled that house, only to move to Maui two years later into a tiny one-bedroom, one bath condo that was FURNISHED!! Why I brought all those things from Santa Cruz I'll never know...except I was crazy. Who needs warm throws, ski boots, parkas in Hawaii!!!! Thank heavens I had a "garage sale lady" who took boxes and boxes of stuff and sold them for me, taking only a small percentage for herself.

Enjoy that beautiful new home, your cruise and life in general. I could not be happier for you.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

It's COLD here this AM.  Ten degrees colder than yesterday!  We have to go shopping today.  I have been putting it off but now there are things I HAVE to have (TP anyone), and my DIL asked me to pick up a couple of things for her, so we will bite the bullet!    But it will be the Commissary.  I am only going to WalMart now when I need things other than groceries.  I thought I only had one pair of long pants that fit, but I tried on a pair of jeans my daughter gave me a long time ago, and they do fit.  They are an 18 (I am wearing 14's), but they have been washed many times and fit pretty good.  It has been at least 30 years since I wore jeans.  I don't like the way they are cut.  The waist on these are a little big (if I put my hands in the pockets and push down, they slide off my hips), but the butt and thighs fit fine, even when I sit.  The moral of the story, keep my hands out of my pockets.  So now I have TWO pair of long pants for the winter.  I will have to bug my daughter to send me some.  She gets bored with her clothes, and I get her old ones!  SHE can afford new clothes, I can't.

Judy,
I AM bonkers! It's my own fault for wanting lovable cats (except Joey when I accidently put my feet on him in the night) , and bringing the rascals home.

White stuff predicted here today too.
