I have been a lurker for a couple of years and I finally decided to join.  I am 55 years old from the Chicago area.  I had my first surgery laproscopic on 2/27/06.  The next day they found that one of my stitches has pulled out.  I was rushed to a second surgery and it was repaired by open surgery.  I was in ICU for 4 days due to having two surgeries within 36 hours.  Spent 8 days in the hospital.  Even with that I would do it over again.  I have maintained a weight loss of 142 pounds for over 2 1/2 years.  I struggled with my weight all my life, tried every diet imaginable.  I am a normal size person which I still find hard to believe sometimes.  I used to wear size 32 jeans, now I wear a size 14.

Welcome to OFF, and we are so glad that you finally decided to come out of lurkerdom. It is is so much nicer on this side of the fence. Really it is. I am sure that you have a wealth of knowledge that we can all learn from. Just as the ones here that have so much knowledge show us new things everyday. It is certainly a life of never ending learning. I am 1 year out of open rny and wouldn't change a thing in my life. I love it and most of all finally myself. I was 53 when I had my surgery and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Then someone pointed out to me that it happened when it was suppose to and if I had it earlier I may not have appreciated it as much. I am where I am suppose to be today. Not yesterday or tomorrow but today and that is all we have.

Welcome to the best forum on OH. You are one of us now.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS for a job well done.  The losing is the easy part, it is the maintenance that is work!  Seems like you got it under control.  You go girl!
