Hi all!

I just got back from the 2nd support group at the hospital.  you may remember that I went to one a couple weeks ago and only one other person showed up.  There were 7 this evening and it went much better.  I was quite relieved!!

Saturday I am going to a OH group that is meeting at a Mexican restaurant at noon.  I guess I can eat refried beans.  Solid food begins on Monday for me.

I need support groups even though this board is great.  Positive reinforcement is a good thing.

Jeane.....I am glad you found a support group.  You sound so much happier than when you posted a couple of weeks ago.  Good for you.
Keep up the good  work.  I don't have anything but this OH forum and I love it.....Perhaps down the road I could help get one started?????

Hi, Sandy:

Yes I am feeling very well and am completely off diabetes medicine (which was my #1 goal!).  I haven't lost as many pounds as I would like, but the inches are coming off and clothes are definitely fitting differently.

It would be great if you could get an OH group started.  Maybe one of the OH leaders on here could tell you how to go about that.

Thanks for posting!

Jeane, we all need to do just what we need to do. I have been to the support group at the hospital where I had my surgery and sometimes find it helpful and other times I don't. I guess it just depends on my frame of mind.

Any kind of support that you can get is a good thing. You can get ideas from all sorts of people even the ones that haven't had or even need wl surgery. That is the wonderful thing about our world~there is so many ways of finding just what we need. And God always puts us where we need to be, even if sometimes we wonder why we are there. I had plenty of those kind of experiences in this life! ha ha

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

The group of bariatric surgeons that I go to have regular support group meetings every month.  First half of the program is a speaker of some type and there's always a theme to the meeting.... second half of the meeting we're broken up into small groups based on pre-op or post-op and how far out we are.  It's usually standing room only... just so many people I can never believe it!  Now they are looking into a bigger meeting room because it's always so packed.  Sometimes it's helpful and sometimes not, but it is nice to meet people in person... I've made a couple new friends through the group.

Hi, Brenda:

Yes I have had some of those "learning experiences" that I wish I hadn't gone through but I really did learn in them.

Right now things are going very well in my life and I thank God for my health, my ministry, my family, and my OH friends!

Blessings,

Jeane

Jeane,

Good! Support groups are so helpful.

May I make a suggestion for Saturday? If you haven't eaten refried beans yet, don't do it for the FIRST time in a restaurant. Most likely there will be no problem, the beans seem to agree with most people.

The first time I ate beets (when allowed) I did it in a restaurant. I had to rush from the table. The darned beets didn't sit well in my pouch.

Take a protein drink, sip water, something you know agrees with your pouch. People will understand that you are fresh out of surgery.

Hi, Annette:

One day I was in town and it was almost 1PM and I was starving.  I stopped at TAco Bell and had refried beans and things went fine.  I will be sipping water also, I am seldom without it!

Thanks,

Jeane
