So I am making meatloaf for my family while
I am in the hospital and it smells so good!
IF I only weren't on the final days of this meal replacement with these shakes, I would be cheating and having some fresh out of the oven.
I also have chili in the freezer for my dad to heat up for my son next week.. but that is frozen and I can't smell it!!!
At least I can look forward to having some... maybe the second week of November? This last week the days are going by at a snail pace, even though I am keeping busy as best I can. I don't really know what is left to clean except for windows and it is too cold for that.
What did you all do to keep from goin bonkers the days before surgery? I welcome any and all suggestions...
I just got a call from the Respiratory folks who have my new cpap machine and a heated humidifier!! I had the old water passover kind before... this is exciting... That will fill up an hour or so while I get fitted for a new mask and such.
I still need ideas, friends!
Thanks sooo much!

Hmmmm Let me think..... the house is all clean? food in the fridge and freezer? what to do ?? Do you sew or knit or crochet? Is there anyone you need to contact? letters to write? or Emails? Is there a book you have been wanting to read? Or a movie to see?
I know how excited and anxious you are.... we've been there and it is not easy.... You are doing so well now. Keep up the good work..... Millie

A book, a movie.... hmmm....
I could go to the library to get a book, good for 2 weeks. I will have to mark the calendar to call them for renewal or talk my dad into taking it back, lol...
Movies. Wow. There just happens to be a blockbuster a half mile away, near the local Walmart. I could go and return something at the Walmart and scoot over to the Blockbuster afterwards....
I wish I sewed still. I haven't been practising that skill for years now. After the weight loss, I could take in some of my clothes... won't dare try to start that now! My gran tried to teach me to crochet eons ago and I never could get the hang of it. She had beautiful things that she made, and I have a few of my great grandmother's crocheted doilies. My cousins have gotten that gene from her, I never was very artsy craftsy!
Thanks for the ideas, Millie!
Hugs,
Patti

i am so envious your new cpap--my old doc argued with me when he thought i had heat-which i didn't!! he was the stooge who wrote the prescription!!!
anyhow- have you taken your before photos and measurements???we hate to do it but the days will come where you will question no visible (on the scale) weight loss-and someone will say did you check your measurements???often we level out a bit then go back to losing but are losing inches!!
so--just do it!!!you'll be glad later!!
do you journal??? if not, start one! something simple as a spiral notebook- i personally love the composition books....paste pictures and sayings and write to your hearts' content--thoughts for you only or to share! do you set goals or make lists??? what you want/expect from your weight loss...things you wish to be able to do.....
umm...my house needs to be cleaned...come on over!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I agree with Margo and the journaling. Try writing just a couple of small "hope to see" items and put the list away. Pull it out in three months and see what you think of it. Two of mine were to walk without pain in my knee (did it!) and hope to need new underwear (did that too!!).
I remember the waiting phase and I cleaned out the kitchen cabinets. I went through every can and box and food product, throwing aways things I was sure I wasn't going to be using even for hubby. I lined a few shelves with new paper, too.
This is the hardest part of the journey I think - waiting for the big day! You're doing great.

I too agree with Margo. Me, a writer, and I didn't journal at all. Wish I had ... would have made for an interesting book. I was crabby in the hospital after surgery because the nurses kept waking me up to go walk the halls every two hours, and the woman in the bed next to me had a cpap machine and it kept alarming, and that kept waking me up ... so I didn't get any sleep ... and when I don't get any sleep ...
I had a whole bunch of books and magazines I was behind in ... but I was too tired to read in the hospital so I vegged out and watched baseball all day and night, or slept. So movies or old TV shows on DVD might do it for you. I've found after surgery, sometimes the drugs make you too woozy to focus on print (or at least they do for me) so vegging on TV shows or movies is good enough ... something I'll have to get into again in January.

Margo, Eileen, and Kathi,
thanks for your words of encouragement and ideas. I did take my measurements and found that my left leg is 2" bigger around the thigh than the right. Wonder if that means anything besides I am fat AND lopsided. I just don't journal. Maybe putting down goals and socking them away somewhere I could do... but I would be too afraid of it being found one day amidst all my earthly possessions and ... I don't know... just plain embarrasment, I guess.
When I was in the hospital some years ago with chest pain, there was no time to bring my cpap so I had to use the one in the hospital, and it alarmed like crazy, so I know what you mean. I hope the nurses pester me to walk cause I know myself, I would just want to lie there in a position that didn't hurt and want to be left alone if it were entirely up to me. I am a terrible chicken when it comes to pain, no stalwart stoic here. In the hospital, I entirely expect to veg out. I think it is awful what they charge to rent a tv in hospitals though...
What happens in January, Eileen?
Margo, I lived for 6 years with that cold water passover humidifier because that was all that medicare would cover back then, but it was just awful. Last night I didn't dry out too bad, but think I will put the humidity up higher than midway at 3. Of course, I still woke up to pee twice. It will be so nice when my bladder repair is done down the line.
Kathi, thanks for your replies too, nice meeting you! I have given up lining the shelves after all these years, but it did occur to me to do just that, while I was sorting through foodstuffs in the pantry. The timing worked out good too, because our church is making baskets for Thanksgiving in the next weeks. It will be nice to get a break from the arthritis type pains with less pressure from that weight, looking forward to that too!
