Hi Joann,
I am fairly new to these boards myself.  I just got a surgery date today!  I am 50 and I am also having RNY.  My date is Nov 6Th.  I will be there right behind you!   I am so excited I don't know if I will be able to sleep tonight.
Good luck to you. By the way, my husband's birthday is the day after Christmas!

Good morning, JoAnn, and welcome to OFF. We are so glad to see you posting. It is always great to have new sisters and brothers come into the family. A family is what we pretty much are on here. We are close and share a lot of comings and goings in our lives knowing that no matter what it is that we talk about our OFF family is still going to love us unconditionally. This place is my family that I chose and believe me when I say there is some family I have that I have simply because I couldn't choose them. ha ha

Please post often and let us get to know you and you can get to know us too. There is so many knowledgeable people on here please don't hesitate to ask what ever questions you have.

Congratulations on you upcoming surgery. It is a wonderful life that you are choosing and you will never regret it. I know I haven't and would do everything again in a New York minute.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Hi JoAnn,

Just wanted to say welcome to the best little secret on OH!

This board is full of the most wonderful, supportive people around, who will make you feel like family in no time at all.  I am from New Jersey, but post quite a bit on the PA Board since the NJ board was never very active and being that I live on the outskirts of Philadelphia, and having had my surgery at Barix in Langhorne, the PA board is another wonderful forum on here.  However being over 50, this is a place where I can come and really share things that many of the PA board posters might not understand yet, but they are still a great supportive board where I've formed some good friendships!

Hugs and good wishes as you progress through your WLS journey, Laureen

Hiya, Joann!  I am pretty new here too, and I absolutely love the fact that there is no drama!!  Everyone is friendly, no one snipes at others, just a great place for the OF crowd.  IMHO, this place is better than family sometimes, because family can be so judgemental...  here there is the very best of support.
I hope you like it as much as I do.
Happy you joined in

Thank you all for the warm welcome.  What a friendly place.  My friend told me about this board and is probably lurking out there.  I am so glad she told me.  This is the place to be.  I am not a DRAMA QUEEN.  lol   At 55, I like things nice and mello.

As I said I am 55, I have 1 daughter and 2 grandaughters.  Molly is a senior in high school and the youngest, Lillie is in kindergarden.
I am doing the surgery to get me off diabetes meds and to improve the quality of my life.  Too young to give up and let life pass me by.  I dont want to become a couch potatoe.

Well, thats my story and I'm sticking to it.
Thank you all again for making me feel so welcome.
I am sure I will be asking some questions my first week afte surgery.
