does age affect weight loss
I wonder if being older will mean I won't lose as fast as others. I guess my biggest fear is I will do this and lose the way I did on previous trys. I doubt I am the first one to think this but I do know it is harder to lose the older you are. I am short 5'2" and might be considered a lightweight but I do have a high BMI. I start my liquid diet Thursday and am hoping for a ten pound lose by my surgery date. I guess I am wondering if this is realistic? If anyone else has ideas about this I would love to hear them.
One year and one day ago I had WLS ....I've lost 130 lbs in one year..... I lost about 11 lbs in the last 2 weeks before my surgery.... disappointing to me, but my surgeon was ok with it. Incidentally, I am 5'2" also. THIS WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF!!!! The bottom line is---everybody is different....the OFF forum is an excellent 'average' of our experiences. Please stay connected!
I'm 5'2", started at 320 pounds, had surgery at 59 years old. After 2 years I am down 207 pounds but can't recall what I lost during the 2 week liquid diet.
There doesn't seem to be any sense in how we each lose weight. I lead two support groups and see people from 21 years old - 62 years old; they ALL lose at a different rate. That includes the RNY and Lap-band groups too. With the exception that the men always lose faster.
The biggest difference seems to be following a good routine of exercise and following the food plan.
Hope that helps.

Hi there,
I had my surgery on Sept. 29th and have lost about 15 pounds so far. Didn't have a pre op diet. I am just doing this one day at a time and folks tell me that as time goes on I will see a quicker weight loss. All I can do is the best I can do to follow the Dr. regulations and do my walking. My first post op appointment went well and I have 3 weeks until my next appointment. i am hoping he will give me a fill, as I am getting hungry now. But we will see.
I also have worried that this will bet the way my other diets ahve been, but this is a major life change and has the follow up with the surgeon plus the great support of OH and I am prayerfully hoping this will do the trick. I am already off diabetes medicine.
Oh, I am not quite 5 ft 2in and am 55.

Some do lose slower than others. I lost 180 pounds but it took me three years ... but I lost a lot quickly and then slowed down before losing the rest. I'm kind of happy I lost slower than others because my skin had a chance to catch up with me ... I don't look as saggy as I could have. I'm 5-3, so not much taller than you. I needed to lose a lot ... started out at 347 and am fluctuating between 170 and 165 now, but basically have stayed at 170 for the past year, which I'm happy at. I'd like to get to 160 but if I don't, that's OK. Hey, I saw your surgeon on Jeopardy this year. He didn't do so well, though.
I had my RNY Oct 1,2007. My highest weight was 252 and now I weigh 130. I am 67 years old I am 4'11" tall. I still want to lose another 10 or 15 lbs. The charts say I should weigh 98 lbs and I probaby would if I had plastic surgery to get rid of the skin but after having Hernia surgery last month I don't think I ever will. It takes me to long to get over surgery and I m tired of being in pain. I hate to way I look naked but no will ever see me but hubby and he is so afraid of losing me that he doesn't want me to take the chance. We have been married 47 years Nov. 26th and we lived togeather 1 year before we married.
