Let me tell you what happened yesterday

I really hate to admit this, but I will be honest and say *I want sympathy* !!

My grandson's birthday was yesterday and the party was planned at his house from 4-6.  Well, we got there at 3:45 and because it was basically outside, I chose to go thru the house.  I have a phobia about steps and there are 6 or 7 steps to the deck.  I was carrying the packages, my purse, and a drink.  Went thru the house and out the back door onto the deck.  Everything was festive and Amanda (my oldest and Steele's mother) was talking and I was headed to the gift table.  FELL - right down onto my face !

The deck is painted a beigey color it is a large area, then a step down to another large area.  Why is there a step??? who knows.... It is a rental house and that is the way it is.  Why not have 2 separate colors?  again who knows...

I have a bruised area on my forehead above the right eye and scratched area on my right cheek and a bruise across the bridge of my nose.  Then there is my right arm - OMG - how it hurts.  I wasn't able to catch myself or try to break my fall because I had the things in my hands.  No noticeable bruising but swelling.  I went to work last night at 11p (I know I have responsibilities and commitment issues) and had my elbow x-rayed.  Thank the Lord, no break!  But I can hardly move it in certain positions.
But on with my assessment of my injuries.  My right knee is skinned up and bruised and my left knee has a whopping bruise and some swelling.
The bottom line - I feel like I wa**** by a Mack truck !

Now I can still walk and cycle, so I am working on getting in my exercise today.  Lori, my youngest daughter, came over and helped me with my hair after my shower.  I can't spray my hair with hairspray because it hurts too much to point and push with my index finger on my right hand....And I don't even want to tell you about the pain when it comes to wiping my b*tt !  I feel handicapped in so many ways.

So I have decided that this falling business is for the young.  I don't intend to do this again unless I am where I can legally get some money for pain and suffering.  And there is pain and suffering when you are 54 years old and weigh a ton as I do !!

On a more positive note - Steele had a wondeful party with a lot of his friends and some relatives and he is a happy 7 year old now.

I will accept sympathy notes, visitors to my house to do my chores except for the b*tt wiping (I know TMI) or new body parts.  If new body parts are in the works, please make them lighter and more durable than the ones I have now.  LOL    I need a group hug....

Everyone - take care,
Shelia

I have a phobia about escalators too... I look for the elevator or refuse to go up or down...

And it wasn't even a matter of looking around to see who was watching - because everyone was !
I think I even said *oh sh*t* in front of some children....

Oh you poor thing.  Here is a great big HUG
I understand totally.  Before my surgery and when I was having a terrible time with my right foot, I fell a few times.  Once I busted my lip pretty good. I am surprised I haven't broken anything.
I have fallen a couple times since but only because I was walking too fast and tripped on sidewalk that was raised.  My right foot still goes out on me sometimes.  We don't fall as graceful as when we were kids.
I hope your soreness goes away soon.
Take care,
Mickey

Mickey,
Thank you for your concern and understanding.  And no - we don't fall gracefully - if there is such a thing - but kids bounce back so fast.

Hi Sheila,

Ouch! I am so sorry to read what happened yesterday. I have issues with my steps in the garage ans as such I have put white surgical tape at the outside of the step so I can tell where they end. Be glad you didn't break anything. My friend who is 62 just broke both of her legs by falling ONE step from her porch. Last March when I was coming down with the flu, I went to get coffee and passed out and fell right on my tailbone. It took me over 3 months to be able to sit without having a special pillow under my bottom and I'm 56.

Either way, your body has had a shock and it needs to recuperate, so just don't ru****

Diana,

I know there is always someone who has done something worse - and I am so thankful to have no broken bones.  I was worried about the *what ifs* because I am gong to water aerobics twice a week and I knew with a cast that would be put on hold...

Let's hope that I won't take 3 months to heal.

Thank you for your sympathy.  And I am going to suggest to my daughter that she put down some tape - the it can be taken up and not mess up the paint job at the rental house.

Ohhh   You Poor Dear,    My hugg for you....

I had a similar accident last year...  Was trying to find my mother after Mass.... panic was starting to set in ..... went down some steep steps too quickly.... lost my balance... ran/fell into the side of my car.  Hit my face on the side view mirror... fat lip ... 2 stitches.... egg size bruise over my eye... great  purple color..... and of course  2  fractured wrists.... one requiring a full arm cast.........  Oh yes, wiping the bum was an ordeal.... shampooing the hair.... taking a shower.... anything and everything was an effort.  I had to use humor to get me through the situation....  I told everyone I was thrown out of church....

All that to let you know....  I understand what you are going through.  It ruined my "quality" of life for a couple of months.....  I'm very cautious wherever I walk now.

Hope for a speedy recovery...   Millie

Thank you, Millie - I realize that things could've been worse and having two broken wrists would've been worse for sure.
Thank you for your humor because that is what is seeing me thru, too.  Last night I had patients who wanted to know what happened to my face... I told em the doc got upset that I didn't have everything at the bedside that he needed... Of course, Dr. B was in the room and just laughed and put his arm around me......

Today I have rested - read, watched some of my shows and been on the computer.... Nothing too strenuous for me today.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
