I thought I'd have no problem with eating slow enough after WLS but boy that isn't the case.  Barely a meal goes by that I don't have pain and feel nauseous.... I know I'm eating too fast.

Any hints or suggestions to help me be more mindful of my speed-eating would help.

Laura,
It is a hard thing to do but you can do it. Be sure you are putting your fork or spoon down between each bite. Concentrate on eating....don't have distractions. Count if you have to. Good luck....I have faith in you and know you will master this soon enough.

I always put my fork down between bites even almost 4 years out. I also got myself beautiful salad plates to use so I could and do control portions. After RNY I finally learned to taste the bites and savor them slowly. Keep practicing with each meal, even snacks. Good luck. You WILL feel better and enjoy the food more.

Don't feel alone Laura.  I have trouble eating slowly too...I have never been nauseous but I get very full....this is why I measure everything out, and I put my meal on a small plate to eat.  If I can slow down, I get that satisfied feeling before I get to the full one.  It really is hard, but we just need to keep practicing.  Huggs!!!!   We'll get there!!  BTW, you are doing great with your losses!!

Laura,

You have the suggestion of putting down utensils between bites. I still do that too.

I went to the dollar store and got a whole bunch of tiny baby spoons and shrimp ****tail forks to control the size of each bite.

If your concentrated efforts don't give relief, CALL YOUR SURGEON. Strictures can happen.

Laura,

Yes, learning to eat slowly is a challenge.  Especially if you get hungry.   Putting down the fork.  using small utensils. taking time to thank God after each bite.

Hopefully it gets easier as time goes by.

I have always had a problem with this also. I would suggest settiing a timer for 3 minutes between bites if necessary. I used a cheap egg time. After 4 years I sometimes still use small utensils and small plates.

Thanks everyone.  I even forget and gulp water when I'm thirsty... OH THE PAIN!!!!  I guess I'm going to have to keep practicing.  Sometimes I just quit eating because it's too much work... haha.

*sigh*  I'm working on it.  Almost everything hurts going down.  I'm just kinda down in the dumps today.
