I am 65 and thinking of  switching from Optisource vitamins to Bariatric Advantage (where I get my calcium).  I notice the BA do not contain  iron.  Do you think I my age, I need extra iron?

Hi Charla,      Taking iron supplements are standard procedure after wls for my surgery center, so yes I take iron every day.   I also take chewable children's vitamins (Costco's private label, like flintstones) and lots of calcium citrate with vitamin D.

I started out taking a prenatal vitamin once a day. After a year, I was told I had an iron deficiency, so now I also take an iron supplement along with a Vitamin C ... because Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron. This past year, I was told I was low in Vitamin D (the first year they checked that), so now I'm adding that. I also take a B-12 every day too. You don't want to get too much iron, so ask your doctor. Do they check your levels every year?

i donate blood plasma and that is how i found out my iron was low--i take the tender iron from vitalady  and like them....also a vit c (from walmart or somewhere)

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Make sure you take the iron at least two hours apart from your calcium.
