Breathe in......breathe out......breathe in......

The paperwork is done and submitted.  Work is aware of the surgery and all paperwork is done....except putting $6,000 on my credit card.....now THAT'S commitment...and I'm commitment phobic...

I would like to know from those that have 'gone before me' what to wear for the first couple of weeks while I'm sitting hunched over at Starbucks daily.  Did you wear scrubs, sweatpants, ???... What???  Were you in a lot of pain??  Will I have trouble getting up and down?  Do I need someone to stay with me?  What about the dressings?  Drains?

Information, please?

Janet,

You will do fine.  My husband took off work for a few days to help me get up and down. I was not in alot of pain at all. I was more afraid  I would come apart than anything else. I had the fleur de sel.  That is were the cut you from breast bone to pubic bone and from hip to hip. I had gallbladder surgery years ago and they said that they needed to remove that scar to make sure they had go blood flow. They tighten my muscles also. I thought I would feel like I had done 100 sit ups but did not feel that way at all. I am 7 weeks out tomorrow and still wear the binder. I feel better with it on. I was so afraid someone would bump into my stomach. As for the drains, I had two and they came out one week after surgery. No showers until the drains come out. No baths or swimming for 6 weeks.  I am now wearing a size 4 and I have a completely flat stomach. I will be having my  back side done around Christmas time. They would not do the LBL because of the way they cut me. They wanted me to bend over the first week and they said it would put to much strain on the back.Started back to the gym this week. Back at yoga next Tuesday. I felt like I could of gone back to exercising after a few weeks. My surgeon told me that most of the problems she see is people going back to doing exerising to early. She asked me to please not to do anything for 6 weeks and I followed her words and I have had no problems at all. Hope this helps if you need to talk you pm me and I will get in touch with you.

Debi,

They are not cutting my stomach....just around the bikini line and then tightening everything up...and all the way around.... he said I'd still have some loose skin because they weren't going up to my breastbone.  I'm hoping they pull enough down it won't be so noticeable as it is now.   Wish I was having the gurls done and the inner thigh lift..okay, the arms and the face... what else??

They don't need to worry about me exercising too early..... I've not done it yet....

I'm not having anyone in to help me.  I do have a plastic cover for the bed....so that should work.  I'm taking out everything I can trip over so I can get to the bathroom easily.  I figure I'm not going to be too hungry for the first few days....so will probably just be nuking eggs....easier to eat anyway.  Did you have problems with your drains?  I can't even imagine a size 4.... they probably won't get more than 5 lbs of skin off me.... and I'm in a 16 anyway...so don't anticipate going down too much.  I've gained five pounds so figure I'll be right where you saw me in February.

I'll be sure to keep you handy....

Janet,  I have no experience, but just a hunch that prior to every 'breathe in'  you should be sure to 'breath out'!   Not sure, but I think you might get bloated if you forget to breath out!

All kidding aside, I wish you all the best.   You've done your homework & I'll bet you're as ready as anyone could be.   Do you have help when you get home from the hospital?  If not, let me know & I'll start walking your way now (I'm a good walker now, heh heh!).    Will someone post when you're out of surgery --- we'll all be waiting to hear how well you did!
Gosh, I sure wish I was closer so I could give you a hug in person!

Jan, if you can cover walking 20 miles a day....let's see... nah, you'd never make it.

I told my son to post when I was out of surgery.  He's got access to my computer.

Yep, I've done my homework.  Always do. Of course, there's always something you forget to ask....

Breathe in........

Ah, but Debbie, you can join me on the patio in my jammies with a chocolate martini....:)

Sometimes that's the best thing friends can do.
