Always an adventure....

.... going to Verizon.... Don't get me wrong... I still think they are the best thing going for my needs right now...

.... but...

I set my diet soda down on the table next to where I park my butt while recovering from this knee surgery... it was in one of those paper cups with the plastic lids and a straw....

I ate my lunch, and did my stretches and physical therapy and took my drugs... and fell asleep.

Woke up, and went to pick up my phone and it was wet... the cup had leaked out of the bottom and there was a small puddle on the table... and the phone was sitting in it..... and of course, it was dead. I tried to revive it by drying it out etc., and was able to get it up and going but a couple functions wouldn't work... sounds, and nobody could hear me when I called them, just a clicking noise... so, phone is dead, off to Verizon...

There is a person standing in the doorway who greets you, and tells you that you have to use their touch screen thingie to log yourself in and then you wait. I enter my information and wait... I get up to the guy when my name is called and tell him my phone quit working and what happened.

..... and this is my peeve with these people...

It seems like they are either trained, or do it instinctively, but they always go for the negative angle... every time!

Anyway, he says that my warranty is expired and that he can get me another phone for $50 ... I guess that is not too bad... but I asked "Why do I pay when I have insurance?" ... he looks at his screen and says "Oh, you do have insurance but something must have happened to the phone for you to use the insurance, like water damage or something"

... uhh...

I said "Yea... like I said, it WAS damaged by water... remember??"

"OH!... in that case, you have to send in the phone and they will send you another"

"You don't take care of that here?"

"No, it's a separate company and you have to send in the phone"

"So, I don't have a phone during all this?"

"OH, they will send it overnight to you"

(me) "After they receive my phone?"

"No, they will overnight a phone to you and you have a couple of weeks to return the damaged phone"

"(sigh) OK... I guess that is what I have to do, since I really don't want to pay $50"

"Yes sir, here is the information you need to have when you call them..."

"Thanks"

I leave, drive home, and call the number he gave me.... Yep, they will overnight the phone to me, and it costs $50 because I have a $50 deductible.... well crapola.... why didn't that guy at the store just tell me that when he was looking at my account???.... well, benefit of the doubt, maybe he doesn't have that information on his screen... since I paying $50 either way, I would rather just drive back there and leave with a new phone rather than wait a couple of days...

I drive back, and go through the whole log in thing on the touch screen again... they call my name after about 30 minutes, and I get the same guy again...

(me) "Hi...me again... can you see my insurance information on your screen?"

"Yes I can"

"Is there a $50 deductable"

"Yes sir, there is"

"So... why didn't you tell me this and save me a lot of time and driving?... I mean, really, I could have just left here with a new phone instead of having to go through all the mailing and stuff"

"The person who sold you the phone should have told you that insurance information"

(Now I am getting pissed...)

"I see, so only the salespeople are required to do any customer service eh... whatever.... I would like a new phone now please..."

"I can't do that now that I know that it was damaged by water"

"OK pal... this is ridiculous that I have to go through all of this.... you can either get me a new phone or get me your manager.... If I talk to your manager I am not going to be very flattering about your customer service"....

"I will go ask my manager for you sir... please wait"

(MAYBE 15 seconds go by and I can hear the manager in the back telling this guy in a loud voice " give him a new phone now and apologize"

So... he comes back and says he is sorry and then tells me I will have to come back in a couple of hours since they are backed up and get the phone....

Back in a couple of hours, and go through the log in thing again... getting pretty fast at it though...

..... (same guy again) "we can't get your phone to charge up so we can't transfer your contacts and ringtones over" ...

"Don't you have another battery you can just put in it???"

"No sir, we don't carry batteries"

"Holey Guacamole!.... OK, can I just have my old phone back and I will use the battery from the new phone to fire up the old phone and I will write down the contact information"

..... so, that's what I did.... lost my ring tones etc... but no biggie....

Always an adventure....

I hear you, Marc.... More than once I left Verizon with words uttering from my mouth that I don't usually use...
I think that Verizon people (customer service) could irritate the Iraqi's to give up the war !

So you now have a new phone and have entered your contact information yourself and have spent a lot of energy getting fired up - sounds like a productive day!!

Marc!

What a day!  I am proud of you for being civil as long as you were!

Enjoy your new phone.

Thanks.... I have noticed that, as I age, I am getting more mellow all the time.... there was a time that this entire encounter would not have been pleasant at all....

It has taken a long time, but attending church is finally having an affect

YIKES!  Makes you want to go back to the days when we could do without those contraptions.  A 30 minute wait at verizon?  You need to move to Omaha.  Walk right in and step up to the counter.
