Weight Loss Guideline
I was watching Big Medicine last night and they were saying at the end of the program the usual weight loss is 20 lbs the first month and 10 lbs the other months.
I have been wanting to know what the curve was and have never been able to get any kind of answer on the boards or from my doctor just the "everyone losses at a different rate' which is true and accounts for some people lossing much more than others. But I just wanted a guideline. Based on this I can stop thinking I am a failure that I should be losing more. I am right on target and can relax and enjoy the ride.

I believe that the guidelines are 20 lbs the first month then ten lbs every month after that, although everyone is different. If you look around at peoples surgery dates and their weight loss ticker's you'll begin to see a pattern. Also if a person has a very high bmi they will usually lose faster, as do men. I hope this helps.

Good question. I read somewhere (can't remember where), that what you can expect to lose is a certain % of your excess weight. I charted all my weight loss, and for me it turned out to be about 10.5% of my excess weight each month for the first 12 months, a little less after that. Keep in mind that I was considered a light-weight. It's also true that we are all different. At this point, I am working hard just to maintain --- my body doesn't seem to want to lose any more at all.
Hope this helps.
