Q about insurance arthritis panniectomy

Has anyone been approved for panniectomy who had arthritis?  My insurance company (United Healthcare) has this program where they call you periodically to provide 'informational services'.  I often feel like they are probing rather than offering actual informational services but who really knows.

Anyway, on the last call from the insurance service, I mentioned that I was having back pain after having GBS 6 months ago.  I hope to eventiually have the panniectomy because I know that my insurance will cover it if medically necessary.  And I know that I have to document problems that my hanging skin causes in order to get approved.  But what I don't know is if back pain would be considered in the decision to approve panniectomy if you have arthritis in your back.

I was afraid to tell them that my chiropractor and PCP both mentioned I have arthritis when they asked if I have arthritis.  I don't think there has been a formal diagnosis turned in to the insurance company.

I'm 52. Anyone able to give me any information or share personal experiences on this subject?

Thanks!!
