Start 2 weeks of Protein Shakes tomorrow

Good morning!
Today is my last day to eat "normally" and I am feeling just too lazy to go to the market to get something to make, isn't that just ironic?
This past week I have been so busy with getting the painting done and putting the kitchen cupboards in order that I kind of lost the energy to want to cook.  Maybe I will go out to some restaurant today...

What all did you you do for your last real meal before starting your pre-op diet?  I wonder if I will be absolutely sick of protein drinks after these two weeks!  I already am looking forward to the day before surgery when I can drink all the Rain, Gatorade, and clear juices and jellos I want, lol!

I haven't been here for a while because of computer issues... Now my computer is back after several days out of commission, turns out there was a short somewhere (still working on whether it is the mouse or the keyboard -- don't want to have to buy them both), and there were some bad sectors which caused a crash.  The tech from Dell transferred my info onto the new hard drive, but I have to make copies of my stuff so if it ever happens again that my drive crashes I won't be so frantic.  This board is full of so much peace, have never seen the sniping here that goes on in some other forums.  So glad I found y'all.

Hi Patti,

Congratulations on getting this far!  You're almost there now.  Isn't it exciting?!!

I ate solid for two weeks before I got to start my two week pre-op.   I had lobster, steak, sushi, and Chinese.  And now, honestly, the last meal before the protein shakes.........I honestly can't recall what it was?!!  How weird is that?!  Suffice it to say, I binged.  My doc's pre-op diet consisted of 3 protein shakes per day and one 300 calorie meal, so I ate lean cuisines or south beach frozen dinners every nite.  By the time surgery came, I was pretty cool with the protein shakes, and since I had lost 16 pounds those two weeks, I didn't mind em.  The thing is, my doc required me to stay on liquids for two weeks after surgery as well, and by week 2, I WAS sick of them...but you know what, I had surgery on 9/19....I am eating food now, I have lost a total of 31 pounds, and I FEEL GREAT!  So call out for pizza or chinese food tonite if you want, but tomorrow you will be on your way toward a new healthier and I guarantee, a happier you!   Come here to ***** about the shakes tho, if you need to.   We'll gladly listen and understand.

Huggs!!

hey patti

congrats on your decision

i cant help you much as i did not have to do this type of a diet before my surgery.

you will be fine though, the days will fly im sure.  there are all kinds of protein drinks out there by the way.  im not sure what your doc requires, but there are clear protein drinks such as isopure that come ready to drink in bottles, as well as the other types that you mix and blend.

so if you are allowed, mix them up so you wont get bored.

sorry u had computer issues, hope all goes smoothly now and best of luck to you.

be safe and well, jacki

Thanks for the replies.  The doc requires 3 shakes a day, the Champion Whey brand.  No extra meal, just the shakes.  It was pricey, I never spend that much just on plain groceries.  Of course, if they sold the containers rather than individual serving packets to mix up it would probably be much less expensive.  I asked for an assortment so I don't get bored of just chocolate, or vanilla or strawberry.  42 packets...

I had read about folks raving about the Chipotle restaurant, maybe I will treat myself, I really enjoy mexican food.

thanks for the support!

Patti,
I love the Champion Whey Cookies & Cream protein.  I think it is the best. I still drink 3 protein shakes every day. I mix 5 oz of water, 4 ice cubes, and some SF syrup.  I blend in my bullet and pour over more ice.  It is so good!!!  Good luck with your surgery!

Patti,

Good luck. The days will go by in a strange time warp. Some minutes will drag like hours yet some minutes will zoom like seconds.

I can't rememebr a last meal and my notebook is out in the car. So, if I had one, it wasn't very exciting.

What I DO recall is my first so called meal after surgery. Not right away, it was within the scheduled time frame. It was strained cream of chicken soup. After all the sweet protein drinks, the warm salty flavor was heavenly. Little bitty bites with a silver baby spoon. How elegant.

Patti:

I didn't have the preop shakes either.  My last meal was crab bisque and a three cheese panini!

I love the chocolate Amblify protein shakes.  I have 3 of them a day, with 1/2 cup skim milk and I feel like I have a treat!

Had to go buy some more protein powder today.  Probably should have gotten the big cannister.

Crab Bisque.... with a hunk of sour dough bread to dunk... that's the ticket.  I gotta stay off the cheese though, the calcium supplements are constipating me somethin awful, but I do enjoy cheesy soups... with asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower.  Hmmm... gotta get these cravings under control before I start in on those ultramet shakes tomorrow.

You are still taking in the shakes often after surgery?  wow.  I hope I can still do that too to get my protein in.  Course, I think I would much rather have a nice grilled salmon for the protein!  .

I ordered some syntrax protein from dpsnutrition.net this past week for post op drinks and it came the very next day, looking forward to the berry flavor after 2 weeks of thick milky type shakes.  They had the best price of any of the online deliveries even with the shipping.

Yes, I still have 3 shakes a day (1/2 cup skim milk and 1 scoop powder).  I don't know how long my surgeon will have me stay on them  From what I read many people still drink them years after the surgery.

I am eating some protein now, we are having chicken tonight that I am grilling on the George Foreman.  But only 2 oz. doesn't give much protein.

I still like the shakes and it is a good thing.
