one year check up

I saw my surgeon Dr. White last week.  He said I was right on track for my weight loss.  I had hoped I would have lost more by now...........( 76 pounds since date of surgery and 86 pounds since the first visit with Dr. White and when he put me on the two week liquid diet) but patience has neve been a virtue with me.

The last time I had seen him he said my band had slipped a little and if it gave me problems he would take out all the fluid and let it "rest".   My comment at the time was "over my dead body will you take out the restriction"

I made the mistake of telling him I have been having lots of acid reflux and my regular Dr. put me on some meds for it and it seemed to be helping.  Dr. White told me to stop the meds and then he removed all the fluid from my band.    He said the band was to tight.

Dr. White was right I have had no acid reflux and no vomiting since I left his office.   For the first time in months I kept what I ate down.   (I didn't tell him I was having problem keeping anything down that was not almost liquid.)

When I go back in a month he will start the fills again.   I am so scared I will gain a ton of weight back.

Barb,
Do portion control while your band is empty. Tell yourself that nothing has changed. If  you need any help talk to Beth, her doc did the same for her....year or so ago.....Beth is my band expert I go to if I have questions for others that ask me....

Congrats on the weight loss thus far.

Barb,
Congratulations and don't feel discouraged. The same thing has happened to a couple of my lap-banders too. They say removing a teensy bit of fluid gave relief. Being able to eat correctly actually helped them lose more weight. I think their bodies had gone into 'starvation mode' due to all the tightness and eating problems.

We all fear weight gain. Do your best and you should be fine.

Barb:

I know it must be discouraging to have this little set back.  Knowing that this is going to be a life long challenge, I hope you know that soon, things will be back in the loosing mode again.

We are here cheering you on!

Good luck keeping the weight off! I know you can do it!  Just try watching your carbs until you can start getting fills again.  You have done so well that I know you won't let this bump in the road spoil things for you!
