question for this forum, how many are still having that lovely vistor every month?
No more, and good riddance, as far as I'm concerned.
I started menopause at age 38, suffered dozens of side-effects (mood, hot flashes, night sweats, mood-swings. Took Evista to protect my bones. Finally, because of breakthrough bleeding, a bad PAP smear, and a bad sonagram, I had a total hysterectomy at age 52 and started HRT (despite the risks(. Life has been so much better sincet then.

I'll be 57 tomorrow and my last period was in April (6 months after my RNY). I have been told that we store hormones in our fat which is why many overweight women have their periods longer than thin ones.
After having menstrual periods for 46 years, I'd go back to them in a second. I have suffered intensely from hot flashes both day and nights. One morning recently while I was attempting to put on my make-up during a hot flash and the make up was melting faster than I could put it on, I commented to my husband that I would rather have those periods than deal with these XXXX hot flashes. (So don't be too quick to say good-bye to this old friend).
I am now taking hormones (estrogen and progesterin) hoping to have some relief. I tried black cohash for two months and it didn't seem to work. I'm still having the hot flashes but not quite as bad. I truly thought this "curse" wasn't one at all since my body was still supplying itself with hormones and this made me even feel youthful as I went to store purching my monthly supplies.

Hello, I've been 'lurking' tho haven't posted for quite awhile....gotta get back! Anyway, will be 53 in Jan, and nothing's changed in the 'female' world since having a Mirena IUD inserted just over a year ago for excessive bleeding. It's mostly low-level progestin, so haven't had hot flashes, though do have the night sweats more often than not. Very minimal bleeding, now about once every two or three months. All the best to you! Hugs, Patti
