I looked at some of the Healthy Choice Meals and Lean Cuisines at Wal Mart today - didn't decide on any to buy, but I am thinking I might want to keep a few in the freezer for emergency meals.

What is your favorite one?  and it can be HC or LC or which ever one you like best.  I used to really like the ones that were cheese ravioli or the pizza ones, but I have pretty much sworn off pasta at this time.

Secondly - I was thinking about some of the protein bars, too.  So once again - do you have a favorite one??

Thanks,
Shelia

Hi Sheila,

Pre-surgery I enjoyed the Lean Cuisine Salisbury Steak w/mac and cheese.  I ate those because they had a lot of protein and kept me full during my pre-op diet.   I could only have one meal per day along with shakes during those weeks.  I also like the Smart Ones Chicken Quesadillas.  As far as protein bars, I liked the Power Bars, but they had so much sugar, that I changed to the South Beach protein bars, Peanut Butter is my favorite, and they have 140 cals, with 10 grms of protein.

i haven't tried any of the meals- sorry!
but i do have a fave protein bar--payday plus --it tastes like a payday!! but....my walmart has discontinued them...wondering if maybe they are being redesigned???

i have gone thru many many protein bars over my 4 years ....have to watch the sugars so i stay away from a lot of them on the market!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hi Shelia:
I keep Lean Cuisines in my freezer all the time.....usually buy them when they're on sale 5/$10. I like them because they are quick to fix and all the nutrition info is on the box. When I'm feeling too lazy to cook or thaw something out I go to them for a meal.

I was using the South Beach cereal Protein bars....I liked
the peanut butter and the ones with raisins in them. Then I found out they are made with soy and since I have hypothyroidism I'm not supposed to have soy products.
I bought some Atkins bars but they are higher in calories
and more expensive, so right now I'm not doing any bars.

My favorite snack is the cottage cheese/jello/cool whip
mixture. I keep it in the frigerator all the time.

I haven't tried Healthy Choice or Smart ones ....would have to read the labels.....some have way too much sodium for me.

Hi Sheila,
Safeway has a store brand called Eating Right.  They usually on sale more than the rest and I try to get the ones that are higher in protien..  I end up eating 1/2 and saving the rest for lunch the next day.

My favorite protien var is Pure Protein.  I use them on an emergency basis.

I haven't tried them but read on another forum that some folks really like the "OH YEAH" bars available on line.  Lean Cuisine has a mushroom beef/broccoli meal that I like.

Thanks for the replies - I will look and read.  It sounds like that would be the best option - checking carbs and proteins.  Because there are times I just don't get around to cooking and having something quick would be helpful.  I am not really big on the protein bars, but they might make a decent snack some days.

Hi Sheila.  Have you really lost 47 lbs since August??  Wow. They have just changed my surgery to a band rather than a bypass...Long and upsetting story.   You give me hope that I will do okay with the band too, Thanks Eydie

For a sugarfree yet sweet protein low carb snack , I mix  container of fatfree or skim Ricotta cheese ( the smallest one with one box Jello sugarfree cheesecake flavored pudding mix ...Mix the dry pudding and the Ricotta together ..Pudding is the small box as well ,, You can add in a tablespoon or so of the sugarfree icecream topping caramel or chocolate or some sugarfree blackberry ,strawberry preserves etc .,,,,,Endless possibliites and the calories will be very low as well..
I love this snack
