As I said last week, this week is helping out Millie who needs recipes for healthy snacks.

I haven't had a chance to look through mine and so I am going to post this later on. I have a busy day and should have been out the door already and almost to the church office. As usual I am late~but then again what is new?

Alright ladies and gentlemen on your mark, get set, start posting all those healthy snack recipes!

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

how about this recipe--I eat only a few so the calorie count doesn't rise too high.

Cheese Chips
-grated extra old cheddar, swiss, mozza, jarlsberg or parm cheese for each "chip"
-pumpkin, sesame or sunflower seeds (optional)
-½ tsp. onion powder
-½ tsp. garlic powder
-½ tsp. of your favorite hot spice (optional)

-Toss ingredients together.
-Place little clumps on non-stick cookie sheet & bake at 400º for approximately 6 minutes until flat, hard, & crisp - not burned!
-Remove with spatula & place on rack to cool.

Hi, I'm a little confused.  I was of the impression that I shouldn't have seeds and nuts.  Also I think my Surgeon wants me on 3 meals a day.  I meet with him Oct. 13th and will talk to him more to see if I can have a planned snack or two.

You're early out ... follow what your doctor wants you to do. I don't know what the diet is for a realize band. I know for the RNY, I am allowed three meals and a snack, and nuts and seeds are considered part of the plan because they're considered protein. But follow what your doctor and nutritionist tell you.

Sorry Jeane....you are early out and I too know nothing about the band. I can have nuts because they are a source of protein. I don't eat many but I do have them occasionally. These are really good.

Jeane,

Yes, seeds and nuts are often mentioned as a "problem" food for bandsters, I think mainly because the husks can accumulate in your stoma and cause a blockage.  But I think it would take a LOT of seeds, nuts, or popcorn to cause a blockage (depending on how much fill you have in your band), and I can eat them (in reasonable quantities) without problems.

As for snacks, some surgeons are pro, some are con.  I could not possibly survive without planned, healthy snacks.  My blood sugar goes crazy if I don't eat every 3 hrs.  This has been true throughout my WLS journey, no matter how restricted my band has been.

So, my advice to you is:

1) discuss it with your surgeon
2) listen to your body - don't eat if you're not physically hungry or suffering from low blood sugar symptoms

Connie, I've made something similar to these for years as Christmas gifts.  It's good to see that Splenda works well in this recipe.  My original one calls for sugar, egg whites, and cinnamon.  I usually use only pecans as they are my favorite and the most commonly used nut around here.
