I have been coasting around in the 190's forever.  Sometimes I just think I am done losing.  I can deffinetly eat more than I used to but am some what careful about it.  I know that I have a delayed reaction regarding being full so I quit sooner than I am full.  I stay away from the bad carbs as much as I can and load up on the veggies.  I have become a little lack about my exercising because it didn't seem like it was doing much to help.  However when I do I go to disneyland or the beach or mall etc. and walk.  So I walk far.  Any suggestions for a 55 year old a little over a year out and halted after 54 pounds with about 46 to go. I am now around a size 16 or 14 depending on the brand and used to be a 22 .  Is this it!!!!

Just to give you some hope.  My wife had RNY in June 2006.  She lost about 70-75 lbs in 6 or 7 months.  Then nothing.  Stayed at or about the same weight for almost 16 months.  Then she all of a sudden started losing again.  I know part of it was due to a change in meds.  And maybe more exercise.  But just so you know, a change of some kind, can kick start something.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Thank you so much for that.  I am hoping it will be the same for me.  I keep thinking I am just at the longest plateu ever.  I had the Sleeve which is differnt from the RNY but have a small tummy.  I have tried everything to kick start it.  Hoping it will just do it on it's own.  It's like my body says " I an't leaving this point"  I can't get upset any more so  I just ignore it.  Thank you so much for your reply.

I am having a hard time losing now too with being almost a year out of surgery. My doctor told me that with rny you lose most of your weight within 9-14 months and he sees more 9 months than anything else. I was losing 10-12 pounds a month and now it is about 5 a month. I am so disappointed but at least it is coming off. Maybe not as fast as I want it to but the tool is still working. I keep in mind PEW when I need a bit of a kick start. That is protein, exercise and water. I don't remember where I heard about that but it works. I make sure that I get most if not all of my protein from the dense protein too which is from the meat and dairy as well as the lentils and such. They have a tendancy to stay with you longer than a protein drink does. I always heard that the liquid goes through the pouch faster and that does make sense.

Wishing you good luck with you goal.

I know this is not where you want to be, but that is quite a change from size 220 16or 14.  You can actually buy real clothes like everyone else!  I haven't been that slim in many many years.  Enjoy where you are, thank God you aren't where you once were, and trust God that you will get to goal in God's time.

Yeah, plateau.

I just recently got out of mine.  It's rather discouraging, to say the least.  I finally convinced myself to return to a routine & make sure about exercise, protein, & water.  I found www.fitday.com helpful for keeping track.

I am losing slower now, but I was never a fast loser anyway.  1 lb./week is good.  Still in all, it's better than gaining.

How are your blood levels?  They may give you a clue.  Don't forget the vitamins.

I also try to drink a protein drink once/day, just to be sure.

Good luck to us both!

I am in the same boat sweetie!!! I am 54 and stuck at 181 - 5 months out from RNY-Lap. I am wearing 16 pants and some mediums in tops but I usually buy large. I was hoping to at least get to a size 14 by November 1st (going on a shopping spree with friends) but I have been stalled for weeks now. I had put up a post about it and the gals have given advice. I hurt my knee yesterday so I can't even walk now.

Thank you all so much.  I think I needed some rasurances.  Yes I am very glad to be the size Iam now and not a 22.  It is wonderful to shop in normal stores. I have now met a quit a few folks who have had one of these surgeries either the lapband or RNY not any others who have had the sleeve as I have.  With the exception of the Sleeve message board.  The one thing I have noticed is that alot of these folks never really get skinny.  Some do but it seems that it is a small percentage.  I know that If I would have had the RNY I would have lost more by now because it works two ways both the less food and the bypass for less obsorbtion.  With my sleeve I only have a smaller tummy but no bypass.  I chose this path because I have a bad case of IBS and I was afraid that the bypass part of it would cause me endless problems.  I know all the advice, I just need to follow it.  Somehow I thought I would never have to diet again but you do have to watch what you are eating.  I have no problem eating candy, cookies, ice Cream etc.  Somehow I thought the want for that stuff would magicaly disappear.  I have very bad days and very good days and that is hendering the losses.

The only thing I did that seemed to jump-start me when I was trying to get under 200 was to have one real meal and two protein shakes/bars ... for instance, I would have an AchievOne protein drink for breakfast (which is what I usually have), then have a Lean Cuisine and a salad for lunch, then take a protein meal (we had these available to us from the bariatric center ... they had soups, chili and spaghetti, so I ordered more ... so I had chili some nights, spaghetti others, tomato soup, etc., you get the idea). For a snack, I would have a protein bar or soy nuts (these were also available from my bariatric center). I did that for two weeks. I dropped weight fast and that got me losing again; after that, I went back to eating normally, but kept it to three meals and a snack, concentrated on protein, good carbs, water, exercise. And that got my body going again. Why? Don't know. But it worked. It also reminded me that I didn't have this surgery to start eating junk again, and I had been doing that a little too much.

Lately, when I found myself doing that again and saw the weight creeping up, I made a concerted effort to eat more slowly; plus I put the food away from recliner (I live alone, and so I tend to snack a little too much at times when I'm bored). And if I eat too fast, I notice I get hungry faster, too. I know you had a sleeve and that's different than me, but these are suggestions, just take them or leave them. I'm not an expert.

I know a person who is doing Weigh****chers and swears that writing things down has made a big difference in her life ... she has lost weight and kept it off for the first time in her life (she had to lose I think about 35 pounds ... and that's not as much as we have to lose, but for her, it was a lot). There's been studies that show writing every piece of food you eat down makes a big difference. I never liked doing it, but others swear by it.

You have done very well so far; It may be all your body is going to lose, or your body is taking a break for awhile before it starts to lose again.

Funny story ... a bit. We have these wellness evaluations at work for insurance. Last year, I went in, got weighed, etc. The nurse says, "Well, for your weight, you are overweight for your BMI, you should lose weight." I am 170 (or was, I'm down to 165 now), I'm 5-3. I used to be 347 pounds and 5-3. So I told her that and she said, "Wow, that's great. But you should still lose weight because your BMI says you're overweight." Now how stupid is that? They're going by insurance charts ... they're not looking at the whole person and how healthy I am now ... my BP is down, my blood sugar and cholesterol are normal (actually, they always were). The BMI charts can only tell you so much. I hope my employer can see that (or I'd have to pay for my insurance).

You are much better off than when you started. You might lose more ... but if you don't, think of how far you've come.

By the way, I have IBS too ... and I had the bypass ... actually helped the IBS diarrhea ... don't have that anymore too much; now I'm constipated more than anything.

Had the same problem, only got stuck in the 170s since July. . .  well someone suggested I might be getting two few calories and to incorporate more exercise, so I have made sure that my calorie intake is in the 1000 area as well as added to my exercise routine and finally lost an additional 6 lbs. this past month, so it's working for me, not sure it's your answer, but it can't hurt and another thing, try not to eat the exact same thing over and over again, as our bodies need to be tricked sometimes. . .

Good luck jumpstarting the metabolism. . .
