You sound amazing.  I can't wait to get off my diabetes meds and my high blood pressure meds.  So glad your trip went well.  Thanks for writing.

Beth:  What day in November is your Birthday?  I will be 66 on November 15th and will have my Lap RNY on November 19th.  I consider this a best birthday present ever !!!   I will not be feasting on tons of food this Thanksgiving for sure !!  The closest thing to turkey for me will be the chicken broth and the jello will have to take place of pumpkin pie but I don't care one darned bit.  My son and DIL will most likely do the cooking this year as my husband is no help.......he has trouble warming things up in the microwave.  (He's a thin thin person besides....can and has always been able to eat whatever he wanted).

Sandy and all... I will be 64 the 6th and feelin 44(maybe). After the first year...I eat everything I want with one exception??? a bite of this and a bite of that...no more than 4 bites of solid foods like meat etc. It doesn't bother me to watch the family get so full they hurt on the holidays..in fact the first few times I nearly got physically sick..My husband eats alot but he enjoys food! Good luck and if you need to vent or have a question this is a good place to start...hugs, Beth

Hi Lucy. I was 66 when I had my RNY last Oct, 1st and 2nd. My lap surgery had a leak and I a;most bled to death, I lost 6 pints of blood, so my doc went back on the second and did an open surgery to repair the staple nick that caused me to bleed out.
Don't let my trouble worry you. I can never do any thing without having problems. I just had several hernias repaired on the 16th and had to stay 2 extra days because my bladder didn't want to start up again. This surgery is way more painful than the RNY.
My hubby of 46 years thinks I'm a drama queen.  But I make it through and that is all that matters.
As some of the others said you are as old as you want to be. There are days when I feel 100 and other times I feel about 12.
You take care and let know how you are doing. You said you were alone I sure hope you have someone to help you when you get home. Sending you tons of XOXOs Birdy

Aloha Lucy......wow...I just got my computer rehooked up after it had to go to the hospital because it was so slow. I ran into my favorite place...the OFF...to see what's up, and there was your post. I had to laugh......sorry....but there are SO MANY of us in our 60's. You would be surprised.

I am 65 right now, had surgery two years ago, and have lost 165 lbs. I feel about 35, and have energy that I haven't had since that age. I think we older folks do better than the youngsters actually....it sure seems like it.

So, go for it, honey....and enjoy the ride!! It's a doozy!!

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Congratulations on your decision to have RNY. I had my RNY in 2007 when I was 70 years old. After surgery all the co-morbidities were gone, I'm off all meds except for Wellbutrin and all the vitamins we take.

I consider myself so lucky to have the surgery and take control of my life, and I'm sure you'll do as well.

This is a wonderful forum - great people who are smart, supportive and ready to give a kind word. Ah, the benefits of being "older".

Good luck to you! I know you'll succeed. BYW, I've gone from a size 20/22 to a 4/6 and feel wonderful
