Am I the oldest person to have WL surgery?

I'm scheduled for RNY surgery on October 8th, two days before my 65th birthday!  I'm so excited. ( I was hoping to have the surgery right on my birthday, but that date wasn't available.)

I'm surprised I haven't found anyone on this site my age, so I'm starting to wonder if I'm the oldest person to have weight loss surgery.

Hi young one!!

I am 68.  Will be 69 in Dec and Hopefully will have my surgery by then.  I am almost thru all the hoops.  Just the pulmonary test and I am good to go.  I have medicare and the docs all say I should not have a problem getting approval.  Sure hope they are right.

There are not many of us 60's something around but we are still there.

welcome to the banders.

How wonderful to hear from you.  Thanks for your reply.  So nice to know I'm not alone in this venture; the nutrition workshop my doctor sent me to was full of 'kids'.

Best wishes to you!

I think you'll find that are MANY of us in our 60's - we just look so young that you can't tell!!!!!
Young-Old  I'll bet lots of those who had RNY in there 60's will answer & I doubt you'll be the oldest.     In our 60's (and 50's too, I guess), we take it very seriously.  We're in it for our health & to get our lives back.   If we can also wiggle into a size 10, 8 or even a 4, that's just icing on the cake!      There are so many rewards for us, and we are eternally grateful.    Hang out here & you'll have lots of support.    Oct 8th will be here before you know it.  I'll start looking for a spot on the loser's bench for you.  Is your name Lucy?      HUGS

What a great note.  Thank you!  A friend suggested another reason there are not that many over 60's on this site -- many over 60's aren't computer comfortable.

This is all about health and improved mobility for me.  As you say, the rest will be pure bonus.
Thanks again.

What was I thinking?  My mother is 93 and she wouldn't be without her computer.  She does email with her widely-scattered family.  She looks stuff up in Google all the time.  And she reads several newspapers a day online.

It's so wonderful to hear how well you're doing.  Bravo!

Welcome!

I really believe age is only a number!  This is something for YOU and to make YOU healthier.
Welcome and I will remember you on Oct. 8th.

My surgery is in the morning at 11:30.  I have to be at the hospital by 9:30.  I can hardly believe it is really going to happen!

Hope to hear from you again soon!

Are you saying that your surgery is also on the 8th?  How wonderful.  All the best to you.

Most days, I'm 90% excited and 10% scared.  Today, for some reason, I'm 90% scared and 10% excited.

Thanks for writing.
