I am 58 also, from Ottawa,  and am having my RNY in Utica, NY on Nov. 5. about 4.5 hours away
Had no trouble getting OHIP to pay as I have a BMI of 58
Good luck with whatever they decide, my only concern would be dates - is Edmonton able to get you in within a similar timeline??  That is something I would certainly ask the new surgeon.
