Hi Everyone------ I need some input---- my wls is scheduled for November 5th----after all the hoops that we all go thru---it's coming right up! SO NOW---- I go to the eye doc---and ( this is actually good news) I need to have CATARACT SurgeRY!!! ( I am only 54---but this is diabetic eye stuff) I am relieved--because I have been having problems with my eyes for a while---so glad it is fixable. ONLY----can I have the eye surgery this close to my WLS surgery??? Before? AFTER??? If I have it this year---- I have met my insurance out of pocket---so that is why I want to rush into it if possible....... and yes, I do have a call into my surgeon's office----but he is out of the country until next week.....
Any comments, advice and opionions????? Thank you for your help!

Well---- I am hoping that someone else on the boards has had catarac surgery------ so I get a clue what I may expect-----the eye dr. seems to think it's no problem---and my surgeon isn't around-=-this weekend----makes for a loooong weekend when we are wondering!
I have a call in to the surgeon's office---I am just looking for the wise experiences of the OH board family!
Thanks,
Lori

Hello Lori,
I had caterac surgery when I was your age. I am 60 now. The surgery is real easy on you. I went in at 6 AM and I was out by 10 AM. I had a follow up appointment the next day to have the patch removed. They didn't put me completely under. I had a shot that relaxed me and that was it. I don't know if you can have another surgery that close to your weight loss surgery. If your doctor says yes it should be okay because there is no real pain with this eye surgery. Hope this helps.

Lori,
It is a piece of cake! I had my right eye done in May. I did not have to wear a patch, but I did have to go back the next day for check up. They worse thing was having to put the drops in your eye! Didn't hurt or anything just inconvenient. I was able to see just fine. The incision is so tiny there are not any stiches.

Hi Lori,
I also had a cataract removed from my right eye last yr, November...I had just turned 50. It was a very easy operation. I did not have to wear an eyepatch. I had to do the drops before and after surgery. It doesn't hurt, just feels a little weird, cos you are awake and can almost see what is happening. But it is nothing, and they will give you someting to relax you if you are feeling tense. I had to go back the next day for them to check me, and that was that.
Good luck!

I had cataract surgery for the same reason in both of my eyes. It was very easy and not at all stressful.. I had had lapband surgery in January and then the cataract surgery in September. It wasn't put off because of the WLS. It was just the way it worked out.
Good luck! Check with the doctors and see what they advise.
