For the gals -- anyone ever deal with a dropped bladder?

This upcoming week I have 2 different docs to meet up with for my pulmonology clearance (sleep apnea - mixed), visit with the nutritionist, have the colonoscopy done, and last, but certainly not least, have studies done to assess the severity of my dropped bladder (cystocele).

I thought that I was just losin control because of the weight, or because of the MS...  or GASP... it was just a part of aging.

Well, I went in to see the urologist who barely remembered me from um.. 4 years ago!  Hey, I didn't have a secondary insurance, just had the medicare all that time and who can afford the other 20%?  He makes this awful face during the exam so I knew there was trouble and tells me later that he doesn't think any weight loss surgery will help this.  I am truly hoping he is wrong and that without all the fat pushing down on the bladder thanks to our friend Gravity, that maybe I won't have to have surgery on this after all.

My wl surgeon is of the opinion that I shouldn't get it done first anyhow since it will be easier for the uro-surgeon to make the repairs without all the fat to plow through.  Ok, he didn't say plow through, that is me talking...he was kinder and said "in the way".

If any of you gals has dealt with this, I would love to hear about it from you.  Even if you didn't have the surgery, I would love to hear your ideas on this.  Wish I had stock in Poise pads!

Hugs,
Patti

Hi Patti,  Welcome to OFF, the best forum on OH - where you can get responses to just about anything!!!!
I had cistoceal repair along with my hysterectomy i*****   Stress incontenence was greatly improved for about 2 years.   I had another cistoceal repair about 2 years prior to wls - as far as I was concerned, it didn't help the stress incontenence at all.  However, I must mention my gny doc said she could see the repair work & that it was a good thing I had it done.   Still, the stress incontinence seemed like a way of life.   THEN ...... immediately after wls, the problem disappeared.   I can laugh out loud, cough and even have a great big sneeze with no surprises at all....   No longer wear any protection at all.  It's amazing.   AND, the results were immediate after surgery, before I had lost much weight.     In my non-medical opinion, I think the OVER-FULLLL  STOMACH had been laying on the bladder.  Once my stomch was no longer so full, the problem went away.   I'm 14 months out now & still no problem, so I hope & pray it will last.    Here's hoping you have the same wonderful luck as I did with this!

Hiya Patti, when I had my vaginal partial hysterectomy, the doctor suspended my bladder, he was old and said he saw it coming. It has worked great every since.
I hope all goes well for you. Welcome to OFF.

Thanks Linda!  I do so wish my gyn had done some kind of suspension 14 years ago.  He has since retired, too bad he didn't see it coming!

I do like it over here, everyone is so nice.

Jan and Carla, thanks for the input.  I read that it would probably need more than one repair over the years, not a happy camper over this, but maybe it will get better... crossing fingers!

I had a bladder neck suspension about 5 years before the WLS. It worked great up to about 3 years ago...now it's back with a vengence.
