I would risk it. Go ahead and prune them down to about 6 inches , dig  them up carefully, trying to disturb the roots as little as possible. Good luck

thanks jean!!! these rose bushes are the ones that were planted around spikes grave...hated to leave them behind so we dug them up....so far 3 of the 4 survived...still hoping the 4th one comes back next year!!!! i am thinking that if we plant them in a container they won't be disturbed ever again....but if they die well atleast i tried to bring spikes memory with me....sighs....

I am NOT a gardener.  Generally if it comes in my house green, it leaves brown!  BUT, when we moved here from OR I had a wonderful rose bush/tree that a DEAR friend had given me for Mother's Day YEARS before and I did NOT want to leave it behind.  The day our movers came, I dug it up, put it in a garbage bag with lots of dirt inside, bush part sticking out.  Dampened the dirt.  Duct taped the top of the bag so the dirt wouldn't escape.  Put the entire thing in a cardboard box, sealed it and marked it "yard stuff for Kim".  (The mover would not move a LIVE tree, I had asked, so if I packed it myself, OK).  The movers put it on the truck with the rest of the stuff.  It took 5 days for the movers to get it here.  I had asked my DIL to unpack that particular box and plant the tree when it got here (we didn't get to NC for another 2 weeks).  It is now flourishing.  We got Douglas Fir seedlings in the mail from our grandson like that, and they are alive and well.  I sent Douglas Fir seedlings to our son in Iraq and they got there in one piece.  Unfortunately, the first sand storm and they were blown half way to Bagdad!  Good luck.

awww so sorry the pine trees didn't make it in iraq!!!!

i am not a gardner either but i do have some luck growing outdoor plants...hope the roses make it thru another move...thinking of keeping them in a large size planter and then they won't have to be dug up again...

thanks!!!

i would do as Jean says ...make sure the pots are big enough, which means a fairly good size pot for a rose on a patio....make sure you water them regularly. they will dry out in pots easier than in the ground.

thanks jan!! now how about this...can i plant them all into one huge container or should i leave them seperate?? or 2 to a container?? i know that they would dry out faster being in a pot...but not sure what to do with them...ricks step dad has taken control of them and so far he thinks they are HIS and they are NOT so i am sure there will be an argument over my taking them....but they are MINE not HIS!!! thanks so much for your help!!

Hi Judy,
Can't help you out this time with Y&R...haven't seen it since last wk and haven't had the time to check it out online. The last I seen, there was more evidence of Sharon and Nick getting back together.
As far as rose bushes....I almost killed mine last winter to I'm not the one to give you info on that.
Just got home from another long day at work. I'm thankful to have a job but this wk is a long one.
I'm too tired tonite to check all the latest on this forum...will be back here tomorrow.
Have a good nite Judy,

Hi Judy,

I have not had time to watch Y&R yet this week, however, I have it all on my DVR, so as soon as I catch up, hopefully tomorrow sometime, I'll PM you with what's been happening. . .

I'm still a gardener in training, so no help there. . .

Hugs, L
