Protein Shake Tastes Terrible...
Whatever you do. . . don't buy a large amount of any one powder until at least a couple of weeks after surgery. My tastes changed so much and for months afterwards some things that I used to like I couldn't stand. I ordered about 10 samples of different protein drinks from Vitalady.com. One of them: the Champion Pure Whey Chocolate I still like and drink one a day. I like this one because it dissolves completely without any grittiness. I just shake it with about 8 oz of water in a pint jar then pour it over crushed ice. So easy and good. I order it from allstarhealth.com as it is less expensive there. Good luck!

I use ON vanilla and loved it before the surgery and loved it since. I still have at least 2 a day.
I put 4 oz of Lactaid milk (im lactoss intolerant )or and a lot of people get lactose intolerant after RNY.... then i put 4 oz of strawberry flavored unsweetened koolade in it. splenda to taste. and a handful of frozen strawberries...blend into a smoothie. then add 1 scoop of protein powder and only mix it till blended in dont beat too long as it will become foamy. I then pour it into a cup and i have always used a straw i get less gas with a straw than without one. ...i love it.
if you dont like strawberries ....change the flavoring and frozen fruit to something you do like. ...the possiblities are endless with a vanilla flavored protein powder.
in the morning i mix splenda and protein powder with enough tap water to mix it up well then add no sugar coffee creamer....and the rest is coffee. yup good wake up and taste like cappachino.

Some places will send you samples. I'm not a big protein shake fan myself. Check with a few sites, though ... I like netrition.com ... they have a lot of stuff and their shipping is $4.95 for anything no matter the size of the order (they have a lot of sf syrups too). Bariatriceating.com used to send a sample pack of protein shakes, don't know if they still do; nashuanutrition.com is another good site that has samples. But look around online; just search for protein shakes and you'll find a bunch of stuff.
Marcia, their vanilla powder is good. Mixed with some sf DaVanci or Torani syrup, 8 oz. 1% milk, and a handful of ice, throw it in the blender and it tastes pretty good. I've also used banana, strawberry, and peaches (no syrup) with a bit of sweetner, and it's also good. If you didn't like the chocolate (and you're right, it's nasty) for goodness' sake, don't get the fruit punch.
As mentioned, your taste buds will change, but I was lucky enough tolerate this brand prior to and post surgery. Good luck!

Marci,
I NEVER developed the taste for any of the protein like that. YUKKKKKKKKKKK and i tried many , My Dr wanted me to get mine naturally though through food .MEAT mainly so I did . I ate lots of soups as in homemade ground beef ones like Taco soup ,tuna etc ,Peanut butter was a staple too and cheese ,,,,Still is bu****ch the PB as lots of calories and fat.
I will tell you this, if you dont do the proteins your hair will come out in handfuls ... Lots of people say take Biotin, my Dr said it was the protein loss so I did as he said , SHOVED In that protien and sure enough .....it worked and the loss stopped.
Now he was right or it was time LOL
Anyway GNC offers a NON thick protien drink like a lemonade or something ,,,I HATE those too but some do ..
Dont buy alot of anything till you know what you like ...That includes food as my taste changed daily back then ..
I am now 5 years out and it still does at times :)
Hugs

I love a protein shake, but I didn't until a friend made me one of hers. I use one scoop of the body Fortress Chocolate and put about 1/2 cup of fat free milk in my mini blender. I add a large spoon full of s/f French Vanilla International coffee and a bit of s/f caramel (Divinci) syrup. Top it off with ice and a splenda if you need more sugary taste. Blend it until it is like a slushy. (If you don't like coffee, leave off the coffee. It is still good.) I also do the same thing with the vanilla, but I like peanut butter, s/f caramel syrup and milk and ice with that one. I love these. I hope this helps.
