I love reading these blogs but I am wondering if there are any WLS people over the age of 60 out there?  I am in the middle of my sixty lovely years and about to have surgery.  I will travel 3 1/2 hours from my home in Williston, ND to see my surgeon on the 23rd of September.
I enjoy  every one's news, WOWS, questions and would love to hear from someone my age.
I am a young 60+ lady that would like my life back again by feeling better, getting off BP meds and to be able to get out there and boogie or just plain walk and hike again!!
Hoping to hear from any of you out there.

Sandy I am 67 was 65 when i had surgery. look at my profile you will see how well i have gotten along. the last picture of me taken two days ago was in my motorcycle leathers. getting ready to go riding. My husband snapped the picture of me ....i am happy and healthy and can do so many things that i couldnt do 2 years ago. Im the leader of a support group, also do a daily post on the Missouri board. and have 3 acres of flower gardens that i take care of . I was on bp meds and was border line diebetic, cholorestal was going up and up and because of the weight the arthritis was so bad that i spent most of every day in a chair watching tv. now i have a hard time sitting down long enough to watch anything. I still have the arthritis but every thing else is gone. living life to the fullest ....there are a lot of people on here that are over 60 also.

Hello Jan:
So there really is a light at the end of the tunnel?  I have been in contact with a few people here and in the vicinity who want to start a support group also.  For a long time I thought this is the way I was going to feel for the rest of my life........CRAP!!  But reading about such positive outcomes of WLS makes me feel so much better.

Have a wonderful weekend.......it is absolutely gorgeous here today in my part of North Dakota and would make a perfect day for a HARLEY or any other motorcycle ride. We do not live far from the BADLANDS--North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt Park.

Sandy,

I am orginally from Fargo ND and I heading into my 61 year. I live in Underwood MN now whicn is 50 some miles from Fargo. Are you heading to Fargo for your surgery? I am going to have WLS in about four months in Park Rapids MN. This board is a great place to get encouragement and support. They sure have helped me. What kind of surgery are you going to have? I am going to get the lap band. I just had my psyh evalulation on Tuesday and I am going to get the results on Monday. I then have 3 more dietition appointments and I will be on my way.

Good luck at your doctor's appointment and let us know how it goes.

Take care, Nancy

Welcome Sandy,

I am 61 years old. Surgery was 2 years ago on Halloween. At that time I was on 10 meds for BP, high cholesterol, assorted other ailments, was getting injections in my knees so I could walk, and weighed 320 pounds on a 5'2" body. Life was difficult.

Today I take my supplements every day, Actonel once a week for bone loss, jump on a trampoline, play HARD with my grands, enjoy walking, and weigh 111 pounds. Life is fun.

Visit with us often so we get to know you better.

Thank you Annette,

Today my back hurts, my knees, ankles and feet hurt so danged bad.  I had to go do some necessary shopping this morning at WalMart and this is what happens carrying around this excess baggage!!  I am so ready for this new experience and change of my life.  I'll keep reading these threads and continue to be encouraged.  I was hoping to have this surgery all behind me by my 66th birthday on November 15th.  I guess I'll just have to wait and be patience like all the rest of you had to do .

Hope you are having a great weekend,
Sandy M

I'm 60 now.  Had lap band surgery a year ago.  My DH will be having band surgery sometime after he turns 68.  WLS ROCKS for us seniors!

I will be 64 in January and just had gastric bypass surgery 10 days ago.  As far as the surgery itself, I have had no problems at all; so far none of the things that I feared.  I had no nausea, no intense gas pains, etc.  I was up walking by 1:30 after a 7:30 surgery.   I am currently trying to get all of my fluids in, etc, and haven't been back for my first doctor's visit, but my pain is gone, I sleep better than I have for a long time, and I am back doing my household chores easily.   I was very healthy before, which helped.   Sometimes age isn't anything but a number.  Good luck to you!
