I could use some suggestions...
Yes I am supposed to give up caffeine. They could not give me any good reason to other than they don't want me having a caffeine withdrawal headache in the hospital. I don't get withdrawal of any kind from caffeine so I'm not giving it up. I have cut down but I am still enjoying a cup or two of coffee a day. Well I'm certainly glad I only have one week of this crazy diet... tonight it's getting a little easier.
The reason they want you to give up caffeine is it's a diuretic and it eats up your fluids, so you have to have more water to make up for the fluid loss. Plus, it's very hard on your new pouch. So you might want to reconsider. I gave up caffeine for the first two years, then started having caffeine again. It was tough giving it up, but I did it because I was told to ... and I followed my doctor's orders to a T. I did the two-week pre-op diet as ordered, the two-week post-op diet as ordered, then added the soft foods in as ordered ... didn't add solids until they allowed. I was a really good girl, for once. I don't think I ever followed a diet like that before. But you do what you want to do. It's your body.
I know the reasons for no caffeine, I saw a Nutritionist (maybe I forgot to mention it). However, neither of the two reasons she gave me (caffeine withdrawal headache or dehydration) is a good enough reason for NOW. For after the surgery, I totally understand and agree with the reason for no caffeine. My Nut told me a couple of weeks after surgery I can go back to regular coffee. Yippee!
I think you need for being a good girl and doing exactly what the doctor said. Congrats!

Laura ,
It is so funny how different doctors are. I didnt have the liguid diet prior to the RNY.. Just followed a normal nothing after 6Pm surgical diet and then the next day had the surgery .. No problems at all and I had coffee as soon as they said food and drink ok after surgery ..
Each Dr is different so we have to follow his rules ...
One though for you as this is something i like now when i want to chewq but not really hungry. Get you a 32 oz bottle of water and put in the freeze...Watch it so that it gets small pieces of ice in it , not sluce and not frozen solid. TO make it work about every 30 min I take the bottle out ,lid off shake the water and back in freezer ....One you get this add 2 packs of Crystal lite flavor of choice ... I love love the mandarin ornage tea one ,,,Not to sweet yet yummy enough ,,shake well ...Drink and chew your ice so so good...
You can also use the ice from like Sonic etc to do this in a hurry ...Just pu****er over it and the Crystal lite of choice //
Seems like a dessert to me...OK I AM WEIRD MAYBE :) Not really but had to find something in place of eating ..
Hugs
