This is Day 2 of my liquid diet in preparation for my surgery next Thursday.  I have to say that I'm about to lose my mind.  I didn't expect it to be easy but oh boy do I want to eat something... anything that I can chew.  *SIGH*

Any suggestions on how to get through the rest of this week and still have my sanity in tact?

Laura,
I found the first 3 or 4 days the roughest after that it did get better.   I'm not sure what your Dr. has recommended but I was allowed blended soup so I used the healthy choice soups blended up and for some reason that helped me.   I also ate alot of SF popcycles escpecially at night when I wanted something to chew.

It is hard but it's well worth it once the surgery is done.

Good luck!

Constantly sipping on crystal lite and chewing sugar free gum helped me get through.... believe it or not, your body will just give up pretty soon and the hunger will die down!

It's worth it... a million times over.... keep your eye on the prize, stay busy, drink, and chew some gum.... it all helps

Good Morning Laura......you can do it...it is so worth it!!

I drank broth in the evenings and that soothed and satified me. Popscicles are a blessing. Chop away!!! SF Jello was a cool and refreshing treat too. I drank Boost High Protein Shakes and they filled me up and seemed to last longer then others I have tried.

You are almost there.......don't give up now.....remember why you are doing this. Post pics of yourself around the house if you have too.
Start journaling...clean a closet...whatever it takes!!!

The first 3 days were the worst!!

Hugs, connie

Ice chips, sugar free snow cones. . . . I "chewed" on ice chips just about constantly for several weeks after surgery. I too needed to chew! Hard on the teeth perhaps, but it got me through. You might give it a try. Hang in there. I remember thinking after surgery about two weeks that I would just about kill for something to chew. Then when I could.. . . . I was kind of afraid!! It's new territory, but many of us have survived to tell the tale and you will too.

Thanks for the suggestions... they are all helpful.  I think staying busy is key.  I'm at work right now so it's a little easier but I have a lot I can do at home and the weather is supposed to be beautiful this weekend so I think I'm going to find some new places to walk and take my camera with me.

I am having some coffee with caffeine though!

You also might want to practice your sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk for after surgery.  It got better for me after 2 days, then I just didn't care.

It's difficult ... but I noticed that you said you were having coffee with caffeine. I don't know what you doctor allows, but I had to give up caffeine two weeks before surgery, and that was the hardest part (along with the pre-op diet of 800 calories on their protein supplements ... a little different than yours). Anyway, if you don't have to give up caffeine, fine, but otherwise, you might want to do it because it's really hard to go cold turkey (trust me I know, and my coworkers can vouch for my more than usual crabby demeanor).

I agree with staying busy ... exercise helped, keeping your mind focused on your goal (and this is only for a short time, remember, and you are preparing your body for the changes to come). I had to do two weeks of the pre-op diet ... although I had some solids, it was only what the bariatric center allowed, along with sf popsicles and jello. Ate a lot of those, let me tell you!
