When will I feel it?
I'm not looking for getting sick or dumping, I'm just wondering when I will feel restriction in my new pouch. I am 13 days out from wls (RNY) and I know it's early but I guess I'm getting impatient to know how all my new plumbing works. How long does it take before my pouch starts to let me know it is full and what are some of the signs.

Donna,
It took me months to recognize the feeling of fullness. I did and still do measure for that reason.
The signs seem to differ for many of us. For me there is almost a lump in my throat. That tells me if I take in one more bite, there is going to be trouble. Sometimes my nose starts to run too.
Welcome to the bench

I am 4.5 months out. I feel pressure in my upper gut when I drink >1/4 cup of water. It isn't pain, but that is what I consider "full". I don't feel full from food yet, but I do feel food back up in my esophagus (like watermelon too soon after dinner).
I am told it takes 6 months or more before one feels "normal" in the full department.

I sometimes measure out my food, sometimes I don't. I am 9 months out.
I seem to be able to eat a little more than most people. I actually get a feeling of being full. Almost like when I overate in the past.
More often than that, I eat and am "satisfied", so I stop. I eat a lot of times now, but just not much. I probably eat every 3 hours during the overnight period. Since I work overnight and work two jobs, my eating schedule is a mess.
7AM - 1/4 cup of Fiber One Breakfast Cereal
2PM - 2 eggs with cheese
7PM - Lunch
10PM - Lunch II
1AM - Supper
4AM - Supper II
I did not realize it, but it is right at every 3 hours while I am awake. Wow! Almost like clockwork.

Hi Donna,
Your post brings back memories! I remember thinking "do I feel full? Is this how I am suppose to feel? Hey! I don't feel anything!" then I would eat something and OMGoodness! "I am soooo full!" Then the next time couldn't tell again. It took a long time to figure out what I was physically feeling in my stomach area. I liken it to being a bit numb there after surgery as I am sure the little nerve endings are confused as well as the new tummy and it all has to work out the new stuff with your brain and all. So as you heal and get more experience you will feel what is full, what is comfortable.
My only advise is to eat very very slowly...lets all your new stuff figure itself out and helps it all work best.
You will do great! You are doing great!
Cheryl

I can't thank all of you enough for your replies. You have all helped me learn something about myself and clarified what I must teach myself as I go through this journey.
I have never known what my "full" feeling was. I have never learned the difference between what satisfying my hunger and full feels like. I've got to learn, as I've heard for years and never really tried to understand, "to eat to live not live to eat".
I've been saying all along that this surgery is a tool to help me. That is how I've explained the surgery to others. Well, I think the switch in my brain has finally been flipped to the on position to really understanding this myself. To make this work, I have to work with the tool. That means measuring and exercise and following the rules. (Did it just get a little brighter in here? lol) Those are not just words now...those words have meaning!!!!!!! There really is a difference between head hunger and physical hunger. What a great day for an epiphany!
Hugs to all of you for your continued support.
(a special thanks to LCT - you know who you are)
