Does weight loss stop after 1 year for RNY??

I figured I wanted RNY because lapband required a minimum of 4 visits to the doc a year for a looooong time.  A lot of copay.  Whereas you are chicken, I am cheap.

My wife had RNY in Jun 2006.  She lost about 70 lbs in 6 months, then stopped losing.  One year later, I had RNY and she started losing with me.  She has now lost another 30 lbs since December.

I am almost a year out, I have been losing very slowly all along and have been very encouraged by others who continue to lose further out.  There is one woman in particular who has lost over 255 lbs., she is over 2 years post-op and continues to lose and is an inspiration to many of us slower losers.  I think it is what you do or don't do that makes your loss continue.  The rules are always the rules, vitamins, protein, good carbs (as in vegetables and fruits), fluids and exercise, which I adhere to and hope that with less than 40 lbs to go, I will get to my goal one day, however, I am also healthier and more able to participate in my life today than I was 80 lbs. ago.

Wishing you a healthy life.  Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

I heard the ball-park is: 50% in first 6 mo. 25% in the next 6 months (we are at a year at this point) then the last 25% in the 2nd year.

I am 51, 4.5 months post-op, and 65 lbs gone, which is roughly 50% to my first goal which would make me still "overweight" but no longer "obese".

Thanks to everyone that has posted a response.  Your comments inspire me and this site continues to shower support and encouragement.  I am looking forward to feeling better as i get rid of the extra person I have been allowing to piggy back.

I understand it is a journey and I am ready to make the changes necessary.  I just want to start feeling better.  I am also not liking that with the lap band there is considerable more maintenance.

thanks again to you all.  I look forward to sharing my successes and struggles as I see there is support here for both.
