Just Want to Say Hi!

Hi ,
I just want to introduce myself to everyone.  My name is Marcia and I will turn 60 on 10/4.  I was banded in 1/06. I had emergency surgery to remove my band on 8/20/08. Next Monday 9/22 I will have a revision to RNY.  I really hope to make many friends here!

First  off----welcome to the board. I have a question for you. Why didn't the lapband work for you?
My doctor signed off on the lap band but wouldn't give me a referral for the RNY. I am 60 with a BMI of 56. She, my PCP, doesn't like the complications of the RNY for my age. I have four months to change my mind---and her's---or change my doctor.

Thanks Nancy! Everything was wonderful with my band for the first year. I lost 75 pounds. Now I would never recommend it to anyone! My problems started in the 2nd year. I only lost 10 more pounds in the 2nd year. I kept losing restriction and went for tests to find out if I had a leak in my port or tubing but didn't have one.  No matter what I did I was hungry and didn't lose any more weight. I stuck to the diet and exercised but nothing helped. I never had more than 900 calories a day.  Easter Sunday this year I got terrible acid reflux. It kept up until my band was removed on 8/20. By that point I could not eat any solid food and was on liquids.  I threw up all of the time.  Since my band was removed on 8/20 I can eat again and I have not had reflux at all!  My surgeon said that my band was too loose around my stomach and that it was constantly slipping up and down causing the reflux. On 9/22 I will have a revision to RNY and I have high hopes once again! My doctor would have done the RNY when I got the band but I was too chicken... I should have done it from the beginning. Well better late than never!

Wow! you really had some problems. I am so sorry. I hope the RNY will work wonders for you after all you went through. It certainly has me thinking. I admire your courage to do WLS again. I wish you the best.
