What's new Saturday!
Aloha Maui Karen:
The nerve of some people, swimming at 4 in the morning! How obnoxious! Now the condo police here would have really been ticked off! That's one thing here ... it's so quiet ... the old fogies don't like it to be too rowdy, and that's good. I like the peace and quiet of the golf course. Sometimes you have someone going down the road with a stereo blaring, but that's passing. And my new neighbors are as quiet as can be. The only thing I've heard from them is an occasional pounding to put up a picture. They'll rarely see me anyway, too.
The scenes from Texas are scary. I was down in Galveston/Houston in April, and I remember some of those places. I wonder about that little motel we stayed at on the beach, if it's still there or it was blown away or heavily damaged. It wasn't really fancy but it was clean and very nice and the people who ran it were so nice. I'm sure some of the historic homes were damaged again, too. It's such a beautiful area.
Here, it's pouring rain ... I think it's raining all over the world, to quote a song (Rainy Night in Georgia). I need to get dressed and go out, but I don't feel like it. I need to get birthday cards! I've put this off for the whole week!

<--- sadly, that has been me this morning. Time to turn into an before Tom trades me in for a nicer model.
My mental 'to do before surgery' list is ridiculous and most tasks involve his help. I had this overwheming urge to clean under the fridge, wash windows/curtains/screens today. Enough already before we are both worn out.
Melanie had her horns out in full force last night. I came out of the bathroom to see her laying in the hallway, one arm outstretched, the other over her eyes (very dramatic pose), Mary in the den picking up papers as she muttered "I DO NOT believe in child abuse".
I asked Melanie what was wrong?
Melanie - "Mommy yelled at me and I'm angry at her"
Mary - "She threw all my paperwork on the floor and I told her to stop"
Melanie got up, grabbed a ball and stomped back to the den.
Me - "What are you doing?"
Melanie - "I'm going to hit Mommy then go in TIME OUT for two minutes"
That's exactly what the stinker did too. I had to leave the room as it just plain struck me funny. Bad grandma!
Kisses
Annette

Oh, that was so funny! At least Melanie knew the consequences of her actions. But she had to do it anyway. Sometimes we just have to get it out of our systems, ya know? She's a little devil, all right.
Reminds me of my grandnephew Ben ... when he was 3 or 4, can't remember how old (must have been 2 because I don't think Sam was born yet and he wasn't quite potty-trained yet), Andrea was getting him ready for our Christmas get-together and was trying to change his diaper ... he ran out screaming ... "Don't you touch me! If you touch me, I'll hit you!" His father, Matt, grabbed him and said, "You never talk to your mother like that!" They told him if he didn't have his diaper changed, there would be no Christmas presents for him. He sat in his bedroom with the door closed for awhile, then came out and let Andrea change his diaper. And Ben is usually a very mild-mannered child, always was. Didn't cry much as a baby, doesn't talk much, but I guess there's a stubborn streak in every kid. And that was his that day. He got over it. Matt's a good father ... he knows when and how to discipline. Now Sam, on the other hand, is more like Melanie ... a little stinker ... much more creative, outspoken than Ben.
Annette, as far as getting for surgery, let the cleaning go. No one is going to look underneath the frig.

Eileen,
I love seeing kids with spirit! It is more fun when you can go home and let the parents deal with discipline.
The refrigerator is the collection area for catnip mice and assorted toys. It bugged me to think what might be growing there. I usually do heavy cleaning in March and September. You are right - it can all wait. ****il Hell freezes over in fact )

Most of the cat toys here wind up under the couch. My cleaning lady collects what isn't under the couch and puts them in the little cat tunnel I have (that Diva likes to sleep in). She tells her daughters that the cats don't put away their toys. When I get home, I pull some of the stuff out of the tunnel so Diva can get back in, but then Nettie drags out the feather sticks and drags them all over the house, meowing up a storm ... I think she thinks they're her babies.
Nope, no heavy cleaning for me ... too hard on the back and knees. And none for you either, not with your hernias.

You mentioned migraine meds as opposed to Imitrex...what is the name of the ones you took? I take Imitrex but I feel horrible for about 2 wks after. If there is something better out there I surely would like to know.
Raining here too but we needed it...everything is so dry. I had to work today as well..busy but done earlier than I thought I would be. Have a union mtg in Madison tomorrow most of the day...getting ready for bargaining for our new contract.
I've tried not to think so much about when my insurance will give me my approval (or not) but it's on my mind alot. My nut said it would take them about a wk to gather all my info before they send it off to my insurance but I'm not the most patient person.
Have a good Saturday Everyone!!

Alice:
I take Topamax as a preventive twice daily, and it works quite well ... but it's $50 for a month's supply. It has helped immensely though. I don't have nearly the severe migraines as I used to (it also helps with weight loss and does curb cravings, I've found). No, the only other thing I have is vicodin ... and sometimes that works pretty well, but yesterday it did nothing for me. Helped my knee some, though, but didn't touch the headache. That's when I gave in and got the Imitrex. Sometimes going to the chiropractor will help, but I needed to leave earlier to get there before work, and since he's on a drop-in basis, I never know if there's going to be a lot of people there and if I'll have a long wait. Don't like to wait, especially on a Friday when I know I need to get to work on a deadline paper.
No, Imitrex works well, but it's expensive and I'd rather not have to buy it if I don't have to. But yesterday, I didn't have a choice.
I know what you mean about being patient ... I was trying to be patient when mine was sent through, and then I found out that the office lost my insurance card, and that was why I wasn't being approved ... they hadn't sent it though! I was ticked off! Because they'd been billing my insurance all along, but suddenly, when I was waiting to get approved, they didn't have my card ... it slowed down my surgery about six months. So don't be patient.

Eileen,
I'm with everyone else..... don't try to find out who loves ya.... we all do.....
Today started with $4. I got there late (for me) around 8:30.....my friend, Judy, came in with a birthday card w/$30 $4 card in it... that's a month for me!!!
Then went over and picked up good son and we went to Sprouts, Central Market, Costco and my personal favorite, William Sonoma. I go on that route every Saturday or Sunday....I go into Williams Sonoma to see what's on their sale table and to touch the All Clad cookware and drool... been on the same routine for 2-3 years.... thinking someday... someday...someday.... I'm going to break down and get that cookware..... today was the day. Glad I got my bonus. Probably should have saved the bucks for my surgery.... two days in the hospital but the surgery will be $5,600.
Now I'm home...ready to unload the OLD cookware and put the NEW cookware up... then to my younger son's house for dinner... Kara is baking me a b/d cake... she's 4... and can do it. With no problem. She knows how. Grammy taught her. Never too young to start kids cooking. They learn so much... discipline, patience, arithmetic, etc...
So that's my day. I have real work to do but just not in the mood. Probably have 10 contracts. Will spend part of my b/d tomorrow working from home.
On the Hurricane Ike front.... I didn't go the Rise n Shine this morning.... it's raining on and off. Nothing of catastropic proportions. I'm sure our Galveston Sistah, Terri, probably has water in her house. Most all of Galveston is flooded. She did have the good sense to leave. 46% of Galveston stayed. Now they'll be bellyaching for someone to 'save' them. I think people that don't heed warnings need to accept the consequences... let'em eat cake. That would be me....hard-hearted Hannah, the vamp of Savannah....
Okay....going.
Everyone have a lovely day.

Hey Janet, happy birthday tomorrow. I'll bet your granddaughter will make you a wonderful birthday cake.
My brother and I were talking about the places we were in Galveston this year ... he said he saw the Joe's Crab Shack sign blown down, and that was right next to the motel we stayed at. I sure most of what we saw was changed. I'm amazed that so many people stayed ... if that were me, and they told me to evacuate, I'd be gone so fast. No question!
Hope you have a nice birthday and enjoy your new cookware.
