It's THURSDAY here....what's NEW???
Laureen was right on cutting back on caffeine. I had to cut out caffeine completely two weeks before surgery and boy, that was really tough. It would have been much easier to have eased off it than to quit it cold turkey (I was a real ***** at work, let me tell you, coming in at 3 a.m. ... a different shift than I work now ... I am not a morning person!) Now that I'm 4 years out, I have added back some caffeine.
I was wrong on the name of the supplements ... it's bariatrix, I think. (barix, of course, is a weight-loss group.) Netrition is a great place to order from ... they have a great selection of sf syrups and protein stuff, and you pay just $4.95 shipping for everything (I was amazed!). But you probably have better access to a wider variety of stuff than I do here. So check around locally before you order online and save the shipping.
Good luck!

Thanks again, Eileen, and everyone.
Cutting back on caffeine will be hard however I understand that it is a diuretic that could lead to dehydration. My doc isn't actually recommending that but I don't think he'll allow cream in it during the clear liquids stage.
I know what my mission is now and I really appreciate the time and wisdom you've given me today.
Blessings and blissings, Linda

Linda,
You got a lot of sage advice from folks, but do yourself a favor and don't go buying too much in the way of protein powders and such, because your tastebuds are sure to change after surgery and they you're stuck with a lot of stuff that you won't need. Try to find places that send samples of different protein drinks and the like, this way you can sample them after surgery and determine which ones you like.
What I did leading up to my surgery last October, was made it a practice to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water, cut back my caffiene so it wasn't a shock to my system post-surgery, made better food choices, as my surgeon was adamant that we not gain one pound prior to our surgery (PATs) date, matter of fact she wanted us to lose 10 lbs, pre surgery, in order to shrink the liver and make the surgery process, as well as healing process better and said if we gained weight we would have our date cancelled, I don't think I know of anyone who had theirs cancelled, but anyone who gained, was on a week long liquid protein diet, I only had a one day clear liquids diet. Then, of course, is having some things on hand for when you get home, which usually the first week, is clear broths, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, decaf teas and protein supplements, but as I said, don't go overboard as your tastes can be quite different post. Also, it's good to try and have some sugar free syrups to add flavor to your protein shakes, sometimes you can pick them up in Marshalls, TJ Max and I don't know if you have a Ross' Dress for Less, but all those stores carry them in the food section of their stores from time to time or you can buy them from Lollipop or DaVinci online.
For hospital stuff, if it hasn't been suggested by your surgeon, bring your own pillow to the hospital, you will find it useful for the ride home, put it over your lap under the seatbelt, so if you have to cough or the ride is bumpy you have a cushion for yourself. . . be sure to have a chapstick or something similar as your lips might be dry after having had surgery, due to lack of fluid intake initially. . . slippers that aren't slippery on the bottom for walking the halls after surgery, something to read/knit, keep you occupied as you won't be sleeping much, at least at my facility that had you up to do breathing, walking or something, comfortable clothing to change into. . . I think that about covers it, other than your tolietries. . .
You date will be here soon, be prepared for the ride of your lifetime. . .
Hugs, Laureen

you have gotten great advice- and i agree that sample sizes of proteins are great if you plan on shakes, etc...
i also bought (from bariatriceating.com) a tub of unflavored whey protein--it was a teensy pricey but it is great to cook with-i added it to my sf puddings and my cream soups when i was allowed- it uuummmphed the protein in them.
do you have a small strainer? i bought cream of chic and celery soups but had to strain the meat/celery out of them at first...
also--some ppl develop a lactose intolerance post surgery- i did- and boy what a shock!!! it seems to be gone now -i am 4 years out--but i ended up buying lactaid tablets cuz i really wanted my sf pudding and milk in my shakes ..i now do water for my shakes- not as much oomph but good enough....
in hopsital i didn't feel like concentrating to read and i love to read--chapstick is a must!!! hand cream....hair brush.....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Good Morning Lora and Everyone.........
Sounds like everyone has a lot going on...phew!!!
I am swamped with work......with being gone most of the last three days I am far behind. I have been at it though and I can see an end in sight...finally. Hopefully I will finish up with only a 8 hour day after all!!!
I am leaving for Iowa in the wee hours of the morning tomorrow. It will be nice to be down there and just have some fun together...no hospitals...no doctors!! My best friend Pam is coming along this trip. It will be nice to not have to do all the driving myself.
Still waiting for results from Nic's tests...no word yet! I am ill thinking about it. It's best that I get back to work and keep my mind busy!!
Prayers, love, and hugs to all....connie d

Hi Lora and all! I don't get to reply much weekdays because it is generally too late, but here I am again! just like a bad penny!
Not much new here, sleep study is tomorrow night, kind of anxious to hear what they say and compare it with the one 3 years ago. GEE**** was 3 years ago about this time of the year that I had it done! weird!
I personally think today 9/11 should be America's day of Remberance. Not a holiday, but just a quiet day of contemplation, remberance and sharing the day that changed our lives forever. JMHO. I think we should still work but pause during the day to basically remember this day and what happened. Launching back into other days that changed our lives. JFK, King, Challanger, Shootings, things like that. Over the whole country and perhaps even our personal tragedies. WE all have them! Oh well, stepping down now!
Hope you all have a great Friday! YEAH IT"S PAY DAY TOO!
