What's New ~ Tuesday
G-Morning.Another cold morning here. The building I work in is ancient they have dated that they turn on theheat and dates they turn on the AC. We are still in AC mode and it was 39 degrees last night, so coming into an air conditioned office is no fun. for some reason our floor is alway the most extreme, either too hot or too cold. The building was a hospital in a past life and we were the surgery floor. My foster daughter ( raised her from age 5 to adulthood) came over last night with her husband and 2 babies, I was really in cleaning mode and had to stop, Her MIL died this passed week and the funeral is Thursday, they hinted that they sure wished they had a baby sitter for the funeral, I bit and will have a 2 month and 15 month old for the afternoon. I could just eat up that sweet baby but the little girl has mommyitis and just screams bloody murder when she is away from her mom. Ihope to rent a movie today"Baby Momma" I have seen the commercials for it, has Tina Fey in it. I really don't much like those silly movies but every time I see the comercial I crack up so we will see. Also going to take my mom out to dinner. It is a dinner put on by a local town American Legion Auxiliary, the menu is french dip sandwiches and baked potatoes. Not on my South Beach plan, soIwill have to eat first so I am not hungry and just pick at the meat. But I do want to go and support. There is a man in our area who wants to make sure that every WWII gets to go to Washington DC to see the WWII memorial. He flys them himself, so this is a fund raiser for that. It is so touching.. I better get to work. Have a peaceful day

Good Morning dear friends,
Things seem to be moving along well for my daughter, she is happier than she has been in a long time. so maybe I can get my life back to some kind of normal. That is the plan. Today I wil get back to working my food plan. DD still will need us to get the girls to and from school but that is ok. We see them more that way, we're just not used to being on the road by 7:15 in the am. But we will adjust. Tuesdays & Thursdays the youngest Samantha is here, but she is in the "helping" stage and that is fun, and of course we do "Nana School" when she is here. Today we are working on printing her full name not just "Sami". She and Papa are baking cookies right now for their house.
It is cool here today, I think only supposed to be a high of 63. Brrrr, got the "new" size 20 real jeans on, not stretchy ones. They feel weird!
Hugs, Paulette

Aloha OFF sisters and brothers.........
Joyce....so glad to see you posting first, but sorry about the sty and mending pains. At least you are getting it all over with at once...and hopefully next week you'll be fabulous again!!
It's just 6:00 a.m. here and I wish you all could see my view at the moment. It's a "halloween morning." The mountain (Haleakela) and the ocean are black against an orange sky as the sun slowly begins it's rise behind the volcano. I just took a shower and am sitting here with one of those soft as cotten wrap around thingies....and just feeling happy to be alive, and thankful for so many things...including all of you.!
My two kitties....Poki and Nicki are snoozing on my unmade bed after having pestered me at 4:30 for their breakfast! Such little bad beasties!! I have no one to blame but myself for their being spoiled. Bad kitty mama!!
Speaking of mamas and tutus.....I'm all set for my trip to Calif. in January to babysit my three little mo'opuna! My son called yesterday and we booked a Hawaiian flight for January 13 through the 27th. I can't wait to see my grandsons again...especially little "Z" who will be 8 months old when I'm there. I sure hope I can handle the three of them by myself.....it worries me a little. I keep telling my son that I'm NOT really 35.....I'm 65, and I poop out earlier than I used to....Ha! I'm so thankful that I'm 167 lbs. less than I was when the first grandbaby was born!! I never in a million years could have run after 3 small children for a week at 319 lbs!!
I am faithful about coming into the OFF and reading....and am sorry that I haven't posted as often as before. Going from a retired psychologist, to a part time working person has changed my life dramatically, and my "off" time is really precious to me now. When this part time "career" ends, I will be ever more thankful for retirement than I was before. Maybe that's the reason I'm doing this work now....so never to forget to be grateful for NOT working when it happens again.
Judy....do NOT move into that little house! You KNOW that stress will be your constant companion if you do, and you will not have a chance to really enjoy your relationship with Rick. I think you know all of that....just trust your instincts, please!
Cajun angel...it is great to read your words from work again.......means all is back to normal. However, I now worry about that big lug "Ike" who seems to be chugging his way somewhere in your neighborhood. I hope he decides to fizzle out.
To the newcomers....welcome, welcome, welcome! This is the place to come for before and after surgery!! It's way beyond a place for information....it's a "home" for those of us who have so mu*****ommon. Soon you'll come to think of it as your "other family." I sure do.
Time to get some things done around here before work. I hope your lives all have a happy surprise today.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen

Hi Joyce and my OFF family:
It's afternoon already ... I slept til 10 ... forced myself to indulge and sleep late. I got up at 9 and went back to sleep because I was so tired from too little sleep Monday (5 hours) from my 15 minutes of fame in "The Steam Experiment." One of our reporters is doing a story on The Press extras ... I'll post the link when I get it. I didn't have a lot to tell him, so I don't know what my comments will be ... I said it was a lot of sitting around and waiting ... then I had to do some walking and was sure I was going to trip and my big break would really be a big break. So that might be a funny comment. I don't remember our photographer taking any photos of me.
I woke up with a bit of a headache and still have it ... can feel the pain in the back of my neck. I should get to the chiropractor but he's only open til noon today and it's already afternoon, so maybe tomorrow. The pain clinic nurse called today with a suggestion about my knee, so I'm going to call and make an appointment with their rehab specialist. I hope it's not for more PT ... that is not the problem; I have great range of motion, just a lot of pain. But maybe this doctor has some options to calm the pain down. I'm open to any suggestions.
A friend of mine who has worked as a movie extra in several movies and TV shows told me she usually gets paid $65 an hour ... so figuring I was there for nine hours, with a half hour break for lunch, I could get somewhere around $550 before taxes! Wow! That would help a lot ... she says it usually comes in 30 days. She was in the second National Treasure movie and sent me a photo of her walking in the background; also was in a scene for "Syriana" that got cut, but she still got paid. She's a freelance writer and so can do a lot of this stuff on the spur of the moment (plus she travels a lot anyway ... she's a travel writer). I don't know if I would have the patience to do this on a regular basis.
Well, I guess I should go and think about getting in the shower. The weather has cooled off considerably here, too ... fall is definitely in the air. Although it was sunny to start today, it looks like rain again. Maybe that's why I have a headache.
Take care and have a good day.
