Question about Proteins, etc
HI
I am working my way through the maze of paperwork and requirements to get approval for WLS. I will meet with the nurtritionist next month, but as all of you are here, I thought I'd pose this question to all of you.
How did you know what protein supplements to buy? Were you given a list from which to choose? Or did your bariatric center sell these products, etc? I thought that I might go out and buy some (but not sure what to buy) and test them out before I actually HAVE to drink them all.
I've never been a big milk drinker, though I do enjoy chocolate milk now and then. I've seen chocolate protein drinks, but not sure if that is the way I will go.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Linda

do not buy large quantities of protein powders and drinks as after surgery your taste will change and you may not like it...
I've not drank a glass of milk since my surgery. Too much sugar for me and I believe in letting the kids have it, after all we use it to fatten up the babies.....
I suggest you buy samples of different ones, even aftter surgery so you know what you will like, although my taste keeps changing still......
I mix my powders with water or things like crystal light......
These are what I do, everyone does differently and each doc has different guidelines....you will get a ton of different answers here on protein and then the next one will be calciums...that's brings out the different opinions also...
Best to do what YOUR doc says.....and the best protein supplement you can buy is the one you will drink......
Good luck....

Hi Darlene
Just re-reading what you wrote. My tastes will change after surgery? oh oh. I wouldn't mind my tastes changing to like say yogurt, or cottage cheese or other 'good for you foods', but your tastes change that much that you may not like what you used to like?
I wonder what it is about the surgery that does that ? Or do you think that it's just that you become so acutely aware of everything that goes into your mouth, that you program yourself to 'like' some foods more than others?

Thanks, Debbie.
Now that I've made the decsion to move forward with this decision to seek surgery, I am focusing all my energy on it. It's funny, it's like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders since making this decision.

Hi Linda,
I just want to share that you will learn so much from the very smart and experienced people here on OFF. I read and asked and followed the stories of so many people here for one year before my surgery. I felt I learned more here than from any professional I was dealing with throughout the whole process.
Looking forward to following your journey with you.
