First Fill and Relatives!!!
Well all,
Tomorrow is the 2nd chance for my 1st fill of my lapband. I have a tilted port so hopefully it righted itself.
I have a question for you. What do you do when a relative (in this case my Mom), watches everything you eat - every bite, and ask are you sure you can have that? Its not just once or twice. Then when I'm talking to her on the phone, she questions me what I've eaten that day. I change the subject.
Its like all of a sudden she is the expert on lap bands. If I could have, I wouldn't had let her know that I had one, but she was my transportation etc.
This might be an odd ? coming from a 55 year old, but she is driving me crazy. I've stopped taking her to lunch and won't eat at her home. I've course I've made realistic excuses to her. I've let her know I know what I'm doing, but she doesn't seem to hear.
Thank you for letting me vent!
Leslie

Leslie,
I am chuckling..... My mother and I share an apt. I get the same thing. She is sooo concerned that I might eat the wrong thing or wrong amount and get sick.... She has read all my pamphlets and literature and seems to know more than me. I also get comments on my looks... sagging skin, hair loss...etc. She has been on vacation for about 1 1/2 months and is due home next week... I have eaten what I want when I want..... not the best thing but it is my choices. I love my mother dearly and need to vent sometimes too. She does NOT mean to be critical but her comments come out that way sometimes... My come back comment is the standard " I'll be ok Mom". Hang in there.... we are their babies after all..... lol Millie

Leslie,
One of the women in my support group has a tilted port too. She had her surgery in another city, the surgeon suddenly quit his practice so she had an appointment with my surgeon and asked me to go along to hold her hand.
Since I had RNY, I was rather curious about this 'fill thingy'.Dr. M first checked her port. He had her lay down, then sit up slightly, inserted the needle, then in about 2 seconds he was done. She didn't even know he did anything. I hope yours goes as smoothly.
My hubby was driving me insane with constant questions about my intake. In this case he kept urging me to eat more. The constant "in my plate" made me lose my appetite.
It was necessary to explain to him that I knew what I was supposed to eat and his badgering was getting on my nerves. A gentle conversation at first, then I blew up and told him to cut it out OR ELSE!!
Mom's don't respond in the same way as a husband. They worry, fret and think we are their babies forever. Can you have a face to face conversation with her and explain how she is making you feel? Ask her to help you by NOT helping and questioning your foods?
Annette
