Boogie Boarding Wipeout
There I was waiting for the big one to come...suddenly the wave was dropping me further than I anticipated and I decided to bail....WIPEOUT! This exhilarating moment was unbelievable and took me 3 years to achieve. It was truly my greatest WOW moment of the past year.
Every year my husband's family gets together in Del Mar, CA to enjoy the long Labor Day weekend. Last year I was in so much pain I couldn't even walk to down the ramp to the ocean so I stayed alone at the park on the cliff. This year (after my RNY in October and total hip replacement in April) I walked for miles on the beach and went boogie boarding 3 times. My dream of this moment helped get me through the past 3 years. My major goal was not to lose weight, but regain the quality of my life, including hiking and boogie boarding. Before going to Del Mar, I remembered that I had a very nice lycra body suit that I had worn many years ago for snorkling and resurrected it to hold in and hide my extra skin. It worked very nicely. I must admit that I was the best looking boogie boarding granny on the whole beach!
Dreams can come true. Getting back on my boogie board was my dream. Two operations by skilled surgeons, $100,000 + in medical expenses, and lots of physical therapy and exercising every day has truly given me my life back. I'm so thankful for so much today and to all of you for your continued support and and this forum to share sorrows and JOYS! If you're ever in So. California and want to join me, I have an extra boogie board!
