Hopefully Mister Urgent won't show up again. Of all the profiles I have read no one mentions mental illness. I suffer from bipolar disease and post traumatic stress syndrome.[ I am nervous about taking my psch. evaulation]. I have been stable for 7 years with the bipolar and I cope wit the ptss. I take some very strong psyh drugs and I don't know how they will affect my pouch. They make me sick to my stomach now and they make me very constipated. I am prepared for the depression that comes with post-op. I believe I can cope with that because it can't be any worse than anything else I've ever dealt with before, but I can't think of it without my meds. How does medicine affect the pouch? Is it more sensitive? Thanks. Nanc

Hi Nancy,
I too suffer from the same to problems as you not sure if you take the same meds as i do. Had my RNY surgery on September 5, 2007 my 1 year is this Friday. My meds are Ativan,Topamax,Paxil and Trazodone. Most of them I could crush to eat in applesauce except the Topamax the doctor had to order me one called sprinkles, they where capsules that I opened and emptyed out the inside. I found that I had just a smaller amount of depressoin in the first couple of weeks but nothing i could not handle. I wish yo wwell and my thought and prayers will be with you.

Thanks Kathi,
My meds are Abilify, Cymbalta, gabitrol, and seoquel. Cymbalta is time release and can't be crushed. It is nice to know I am not alone. In all the profiles I have read nobody addresses mental illness. I have been cautious about bringing it up because being mentality ill has it's own issues and being obese is a double whamee. Again, thanks. Nancy

You won't be able to do any time released meds. They just don't work with RNY. Your doc will have to prescribe somethng else.

Somewhere in my profile, you'll have to search it cause there are a few pages, is a list of the meds not to take.....
