Hi
I am working on my 6 month medically  supervised diet before my WLS.   I have a question for you all about a couple of things.

Why is it that following WLS you can't eat and drink at the same time?  Is this forever?

How does one stay adequately hydrated if you can't drink all day ?

I've hard that for most people, they have problems with expelling really odorous gas. Is this true of all?  Is there a way to avoid this (foods, etc?)?

Do you get heartburn at all ?(I have raging heartburn from time to time a nd was surely hoping it would now end).

That's' it for now.  Thanks for your help and answers.    Also, I hope that 'you know who' is doing ok tonight. I know today was a big day for her and have read all your posts.  I'll keep her and hers in my prayers.

Hiya. You will get your drinking in. Yes, the rule of no drinking with meal and half hour after or before.
The reason for this is your body needs to feel full or your new full. If you drink, you will flush the food out.
You wil not stay hydrated unless you drink what you should, believe me, you will get use to it.
I have not had heart burn and it could be what the person is eating.
Gas, at this time is the same after may be hard on you ate first, but  it will pass, or does for many. For awhile your BMs and Gas, will have an awful odor, it too will pass.
Congrats to you.
This is my exerience only, and I am not a professional.

Your goal is to drink a min of 64 oz of water a day. You will have to work up to that number, it won't happen in the beginning, just keep sipping and sipping......not sure where you heard no drinking all day....

The reason you do not drink with your meals is that you body needs the fuel from the "protein first" foods that you are consuming. The longer it says, the better chance of any absorption from the foods.

Yes, it is forever.......

You will do fine......I have faith in you........

Ditto on what was said about your water and food intake.  Plus, stock up on Gas X dissolvable strips.  Trust me.    Gas and odiferous (hey, how's that for a word?? LOL) BM's are all part of it.
The heartburn (for me) went away after the first week I was home.  I had a raging case of reflux/gerd for years, and it's so nice to eat a meal now and not have to run for the Pepcid.  You'll be fine, sweetie, honest.

Thanks, Terri and all of you for your replies.

Gas X dissolvable strips?  Didn't know they had those!   I will check into that and as I get closer to my surgery date I will, I'm sure, have a list together of what I need and of course, I'll ask all of you folks as you've 'been there, done that'.

You're all so wonderful. I'm so fortunate to have found you all!
