Checking in while I can!
Gustav still hasn't made up his mind! Come on already, let's get the show on the road! I did get a call from work. Our phone tree is activated. We are to report to work on Thursday if all goes well. Of course we are to listen to the latest updates from the media...blah, blah, blah.
I'm doing what I love best - cooking. Stupid, maybe, but it calms me. So, we're got meatloaf, beef stew, and chicken in tomato sauce. We'll have help eating it. Our son decided he'd stay with us. I was concerned about him being alone (his roomate is out of town visiting his parents and decided to stay until after the threat is over). I played on GIII's sympathy. You know your dad's back is bothering him, and I can't do a lot by myself. If we take on water, we'd like to get as much upstairs as possible. NOTE: WE DO NOT EXPECT T HAVE WATER!!! Do you think you could come stay here with us, we sure could use the extra pair of hands... Worked like a charm! George thinks GIII wasn't too keen on staying by himself, that's why he gave in so easily. GII called about an hour ago. They're closing at the restaurant. All the produce is being pitched, all the meats are being frozen in hopes that they can salvage it. He says he's bringing me a container of chicken salad 'cause he knows how much I like it! How sweet!
Danny, other son called. He'll be heading to the hospital for the night and will be there until whenever they allow him to go. I did get to talk to Ethan. It was all I could do the choke back the tears and lump in my throat hearing that sweet voice. He's heading to Memphis with ex-DIL and her family. I know he'll be safe, but I can't stop the tears. OK, suck it up, he's safe, he's safe... Daughter, SIL, and Gabe are probably in Gustav's path more than we are. If need be, they'll head up to Joplin. All other family members have checked in. Neighbors are mixed, some leaving, some staying.
We will not take any foolish chances, we are prepared to leave on a moments notice! I know I've mentioned this before, a couple of our friends have said we are one electric bill away from being Amish! We are thrifty, conservative, and resourceful. We are not survivalist by a long shot, but we sure would have made darn good pioneers! It may be a little uncomfortable without electricity, but we can handle it!
I'll check in again when I can. Nothing major expected to happen for a while.

Debbie--You know I've been thinking of y'all. Please stay safe and don't wait too long to leave. I keep hearing that the westbank is going to get the water this time! We're still trying to decide (even though we're 26 ft. above sea level). However, i can't find a hotel room in the Memphis area, so we might just keep going to Cincinnati to visit our two daughters (it's 12 hours on a regular day). I am worried about the horrible traffic though. I work at a retirement community and they asked for volunteers to come in and stay, but my husband is just too much against that, so I'll probably just go unless the thing takes a turn to the west overnight. Please stay safe--don't let money be the deciding factor--it's only money. Keep in tough on the boards as long as you can. Jen
Hi !!!! My new friend from New Orleans! Yes, My dear Husband is looking at me and is just before saying the dreaded words,"Aren't you glad I got you out of there?" I will again say yes,,,,,,,,and like the Katrina time I will again really mean it.
I have lived there and I know what you are going through. Nothing but prayers from all of us on here and around the World can help at this point. So I am sending them up for you and all of the ones we left there 10 years ago. God bless you, your family and all of NOLA.
Take care and keep us posted, Sharon
I am going to send you a PM

Aloha Debbie...I just got home from baby testing at the hospital and have been watching the news. The convention is taking background to your Gustov! They are advising EVERYONE EVACUATE! So, what are you still doing at home? I have been worrying about you. Please don't be brave and sit still...this thing is a monster. The highways was jammed.....that's the only bummer about taking off. You'll be in gridlock for miles and miles they say.
It is just not fair that your city is having to go through this yet again! Debbie, Please go somewhere safe. I care about you, and want you to be somewhere else!!
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen
